Was looking to possibly buy a Shelby

If you wanted to get money out of your car as-is your only bet would be to sell it privately to an enthusiast who will put value on your mods.

It's probably best you wait for the Shelby anyways. The 2013 refresh is due in spring of 2012 (Mustang model years start in spring, not fall) and it's due for some more power and some other tweaks. Might be worth the wait. During that time you might want to see if you can get any offers from private buyers.

Yea not a bad idea. I think the sales manager said they were looking to bump hp to like 650 or close to it. I kind of was expecting around 38k for I would be happy with that price since I think it is fair. Damn car is still practically brand new and still has new car smell lol.

I think $38k would be a stretch, even private party. But you might be able to clear $30k PP with your mods if you find the right buyer. You could probably take KBB on your car + maybe 50% of the value of your mods to get an idea of what you might be able to realistically get for it.

I haven't seen anything actually go for that. People ask it, doesn't mean people will pay.

This right here is correct.
Not only that but you have to find someone willing to buy a car that has been worked on to this magnitude. Most modders like to oversee or do there own cars. Buying a FI'd vehicle from a complete stranger is an extremely high risk. So if you expect any kind of money for your mods. Part them out and sell them. Then bring your car back to stock.

Not only that, but modders have their own unique tastes, so what I've modded in my car as the seller may not be what you the buyer would have done (performance or aesthetic-wise). Plus some people eschew mods altogether and just want a bone stock car.

So yeah, parting the car is the only way to get anything back, and returning to stock means an easier sale.

You might get lucky. Depends on the market.

I was actually looking at my options too. It makes a whole lot more sense to part out the car and then sell it privately. Whether with mods or without, you will definitely get more money privately. Thinking seriously about it.

Yeah, I didn't have anything really serious on my Z but I was going to get the same trade in value modded or stock. I was able to part it out and recoup about 50% of my cost on the mods, so it worked out pretty well. It's almost always best to part it out.

Raul, what are you looking at? I am coming up on a full year with the 5.0 so I'm looking at my options as well.

After having the 5.0 for a year is there something about it that is losing its appeal that is making you look at other options?

No, not really. I just have a car disease. I had the Z for 18 months total. After about 12 months with it I was actively looking for something else.

The same thing is starting to happen with the 5.0. I've been looking at some BMWs. But I kind of want to force myself to hold on to it a little longer just from a pure financial point of view. I'm very happy with the car, so it's not that big of a deal if I "force" myself to keep it.
