In other words keep the rpm's down and don't enjoy your purchase. The only times I ever got better than 16 MPG was under these conditions. Sports car fun at a minimum costs fuel. When I fill up my tank and find I am getting less than 12 MPG, actually makes me smile, because I know I got my moneys worth.
