Increasing your MPGs?

Drive like an old woman. I'm at only ~240 miles or so but so far my MPG is 13.4 :x Seems odd -- I don't drive it THAT hard. But

Technically your gas mileage is 0. You gotta drive to have a measurement in "miles per gallon"

my understanding which could be wrong IS, reducing space from your car and the road reduces the amount of air turbulence from under the car which would increase drag.

Maybe some how you really did reduce CD and that would be good enough explanation for me.

True city driving (constant stop-go from stop sign to stop sign) will get you about 15-16 mpg. If you're solely on the highway, without a car directly in front of you, and doing about 70mph, you'll see about 22-24 mpg. The guys who get the higher numbers for city are actually driving along at a constant pace for a fair amount of time (it should be called 'sprawling suburbs' instead of 'city'). The 30+mpg numbers on the highway are either slightly downhill trips or readings people see when they're slipstreaming behind a semi-truck. The Z doesn't ever get a true 30mpg.

And the worst mpg I've seen is at the track with just 6 mpg.

MPG is calculated by miles-driven divided by gallons used. So, in this case, with 0 gallons used, you're dividing by 0, which gives...INFINITY (NOT Infiniti).

That's some good gas mileage

The best may to improve MPG is to drive the car like you are breaking in the engine according to owners manual. In other words keep the rpm's down and don't enjoy your purchase. The only times I ever got better than 16 MPG was under these conditions. Sports car fun at a minimum costs fuel. When I fill up my tank and find I am getting less than 12 MPG, actually makes me smile, because I know I got my moneys worth. OP, Good luck with your situation.

+1000.... last night, I was trying to find the Z's mpg sweet spot with that lil meter. This is what I learned. From a light. Whether crawling off a red light or taking off like a bat out of hell you get the same result on the meter, except when u launch quick, you get up to speed fast so you spend less time wasting gas.

on the highway I noticed the best mileage is between 55 and 80. So take your pick on what speed you want to be at. It all gets you around 23-24mpg's. But if you use CRUISE CONTROL? There is where you will save an enormous amount of gas.

Last night in low traffic, I used CRUISE in the city at 50mph and was getting around 22-24 city.
(I have radar and most speed limits are 40-45mph, on huge wide low trafic roads. Tx is designed this way. Do not try in major cities with lots of people sharing the streets with you.)
On the highway I did 80 in a 70 on the left lane on cruise and was receiving a range of 22-30 mpg depending on terrain changes...

So if you want to save the most gas mileage, use CRUISE as often as possible. Get off the line fairly quickly to come to speed. Don't smash but don't crawl.

This is something I will definately preach more than practice. Its hard to save gas in a car this fun.

Stop caring about fuel economy when I bought the Z... that's NOT why I bought it!
