Perfectly developed nations pay 2-3 times what we do for gas... why? because they need to give incentives to alternate fuel / public transport - what do we do? sell hummers cheaper at the dealership than they are in a nevada strip club... what do you expect?

Honestly - I have been enjoying having the roads to myself too - my commutes are more painless and there are less idiots on the road - honestly a change I welcome and a change for which I will gladly pony up a couple of extra bucks a gallon for. I honestly think this country is lazy and ignorant enough to sit on its *** and watch as other countries adopt alternate transportation - this will make us think. Every time you spend a 100 bucks on a full tank of gas - you will really want to go get that electric car / carpool / take a bus. Think about it - there will always be balance in the world and our time of sipping on free gas is coming to an alarming halt...

if gas is 3.50 and it costs 45 dollars to fill up or if its 5.00 and it costs 65 to fill up, I am going to pay it...

there are so many other things that we bend over and get raped on, but people love to complain about gas...

as for the guy who wants a juke or altima. I just had a juke loaner and driving it spiritedly it got me about 22-23 around town and 30-33 hwy , my Z gets me 15-17 around town and 25-28 on the highway with my 4.08 final drive... not much difference where you will see any real gains...

get a early 90s civic to save gas/money

European nations pay more for gas in part because they have the VAT (Valued Added Tax) and socialist governments that don't believe in freedom. They don't believe in allowing their people to decide what, when, and how they drive but coerce them into accepting their vision of what people should do through tax codes and policies. It forces the masses to comply, meaning they are not free, but naturally the wealthy and ruling classes can still afford the gas. If someone wants to pay more, then give the clerk more money but leave the rest of us alone. What on earth happened to the rugged individualist? (They are driving the Z?)

I think some may forget that the Z was never intended to be a mass sales car. Nissan expects to sell about 10,000 Z's a year. The 370 has met those numbers. Nissan can't afford to buy expensive network time to advertise a car that sells less than 1,000 units a month.

In terms of people recognizing the car, mostly I get "That's a really beautiful car". I don't care if they know any more. I can't tell the difference between Lambo's or other super cars. Other sports car owners know what a 370Z is.

Personally, I like having a "mystery" car.

Funny you should mention that. I bought a 2010 Prius in July of 2009. I traded it in for a 2010 370Z in September of 2010. It was an expensive trade but the simple fact is that I hated to drive the Prius. Yes, I got 45mpg, and yes it had adaptive cruise control, steering assist, automatic parking, blah blah blah. The simple fact was that it was absolutly no fun to drive. None. So now gas costs me twice as much, but I am enjoying my daily drive to work. The Prius was absolutely numb. Pickup wasn't bad, but if you drove it hard, mileage went down into the 30's mpg. But it was still totally boring. I never regret that move.

Interestingly, the other day when I was returning to my car from a store, a woman was putting a package into her 2010 Prius. She looked over and said, "That's a really beautiful car". I thanked her and told her I traded a 2010 Prius to get my Z. She replied, "Looking at your car I was thinking that I should do that too. This thing is no fun to drive."

It comes down to values. Does economy trump pleasure. My vote is NO!
By the way, my Z is in the shop today getting some of the clear bra replaced (minor parking lot damage). I rented a G37 from Enterprise. It's a very interesting feeling, getting out of the Z and right into the G37. I know the two cars share a lot of parts. It's immediately obvious. It's also less fun to drive than the Z. Nice car, virtually identical cabin tech, but slower and tuned much more conservatively. Yup, I made the right choice.

He said they all thought Nissan Corporate was crazy as they were projecting 30k units to sell a year (like the 350Z) while everyone in North America thought it would be significantly less than that.

Definitely agree with the "mystery" car appeal. When I was looking into buying a sports car, I was comparing the 370 to the Ford Mustang GT and the Hyundai Genesis coupe.

I just didn't like the Genesis enough to buy one, and the Mustang has this "everyday sports car" look to me. I wanted something unique, rare, uncommon - something that draws attention simply because it's the opposite of ubiquitous. That was the appeal of the 370 to me - that fact that there aren't as many 370s around makes it more attractive.

I think that if dealers really had a hard enough time selling 370s that Nissan would start to give incentives, which they're not doing for the 370Z or the GT-R, at least as of a week ago when I bought mine.

They projected 30,000, but the project was approved based on 25k as a minimum. Oops....
