I think some may forget that the Z was never intended to be a mass sales car. Nissan expects to sell about 10,000 Z's a year. The 370 has met those numbers. Nissan can't afford to buy expensive network time to advertise a car that sells less than 1,000 units a month.

In terms of people recognizing the car, mostly I get "That's a really beautiful car". I don't care if they know any more. I can't tell the difference between Lambo's or other super cars. Other sports car owners know what a 370Z is.

Personally, I like having a "mystery" car.

Their business case called for 25k units a year.

I believe it was actually 30k. I remember talking to the marketing director for the 370Z at ZDayZ last year. He said they all thought Nissan Corporate was crazy as they were projecting 30k units to sell a year (like the 350Z) while everyone in North America thought it would be significantly less than that.

Surely enough they had to cut production as there was only demand for about 10,000 units a year.

They projected 30,000, but the project was approved based on 25k as a minimum. Oops....

Definitely agree with the "mystery" car appeal. When I was looking into buying a sports car, I was comparing the 370 to the Ford Mustang GT and the Hyundai Genesis coupe.

I just didn't like the Genesis enough to buy one, and the Mustang has this "everyday sports car" look to me. I wanted something unique, rare, uncommon - something that draws attention simply because it's the opposite of ubiquitous. That was the appeal of the 370 to me - that fact that there aren't as many 370s around makes it more attractive.

I think that if dealers really had a hard enough time selling 370s that Nissan would start to give incentives, which they're not doing for the 370Z or the GT-R, at least as of a week ago when I bought mine.

I feel like getting a fuel effiecient car/slow car is not really that fuel efficient or w.e. I had a 2008 altima 2.5s sedan before i got the z. I know i ate more gas in that car just because the car was too damn slow. i would have to floor it to drive with the crowd. But in the z you dont have to floor it. Just a little acceleration and you have already driven like a half a mile.

You are right, it is not hyper right now. But within the next couple decades, the US won't even be able to afford to pay interest on its loans. Meanwhile, the US continues to print money to pay off its own debt, and can do so because the US dollar is the main currency being traded and bought. Since the US government is the largest holder of its own debt and is printing money to pay itself back, that sounds like a recipe for rapid inflation to me.

What your talking about there is power buddy

The Z has more power and it takes more gas to produce it. Even though you're flooring it in the altima, you're still using less gas.

I don't think getting a second beater like an altima is worth it. You have the cost of the car that's several thousand already, plus insurance, plus the gas for it too. Unless you can get a dirt cheap car with 30-35mpg, then sure it'll balance out eventually.

And the 370z says rawrrrr

The service tech at my Nissan dealership refered to my car as a 350z, how sad is that?

Somehow I am reminded of Top Gear's test of the BMW versus the Prius - if you want good gas mileage, get a powerful car and just drive it like it is a Prius.

OTOH, if you try to drive your low power car like a 370Z, you won't be saving much gas

As for the snowbelt, I bet you knew where you lived before you bought a 370Z, so don't blame us (And I am switching back to the RE050's this week as the last <32 night should be Wednesday.)

I think we are lucky the 370Z just has to pay for the incremental cost since so many parts are shared with the 370Z and other cars, and I hope that means the group will continue.

Of course, with the Nismo and IPL models being too close to badge engineering, I don't think that helps Nissan's overall cause like AMG or M models do.

I don't know the stats compared to 350z sales or what Nissan foretasted sales were for 2009/2010 model.

HOWEVER there is one thing I know for sure

If Nissan had spent a little more time on DESIGN (looks) of the 370z it would sell much better.

I repeat my comment to an earlier poster. Please, please, I think it is a mistake to post comments on this forum when drunk, high, tweaking, stoned or tripping. Thank you and just say no. It's one day at a time, brother.

You got to admit they did a piss poor job by selecting a design from a local homeboy out of Surrey BC.

Q: What car manufacturer runs a "contest" for next car design?
A: The one that has no money or imagination, NISSAN

Don't like how it looks don't buy it. And I'm pretty sure the guy who designed it wasn't a gangsta off the street but a Nissan Designer.
