People describe a few discrete factors but can't truly quantify how long they stay at an RPM, where they shift, what the humidity is, if they're driving uphill, etc etc. The cars don't vary enough for oil temperatures to be dramatically different from car to car. Agreed. For casual driving, I generally shift between 3-3.5k and throw it into 6th to cruise when the speed limit is 45mph+. I'm sure most people leave it in 5th when driving in the city, so that's probably one reason my temp stays lower.
