Yes, everyone was curious about that also but AAM cleared the air.
Really once you start tuning either car it is nulled out performance wise. The Nismo tune from factory basically is a couple minor tweaks which is paired with the exhaust. One reason why people say if you are going to go crazy modding it might be best to jump on a base/touring with sport and skip the Nismo.

you guys sound like democrats and republicans trying to change each other's views
it's simple really. those who think the nismo is worth it bought a nismo and those who don't think it's worth it, did not buy one.

After thinking a little deeper into this, if i remember correctly the NISMO rims weigh something like 20lbs for both front and back...base and sport packed Z's IIRC weigh something like 23ish front and back....that unsprung weight loss could account for the HP diff too. Rim weight makes a difference on the dyno....hhmmmmm intersting

I always thought less weight on the rims means better torque and not HP. Smaller diameter rims always means more HP.

I've said that before. If people want to heavily mod their cars as in body kits and new rims and so forth, they should get a base/touring. People that bought the nismos love the body and rims not because of the HP increase. No nismo owner in their right mind bought the nismo just for that 18hp increase.

I love the way my car looks over the fangs. I love my rims over the sports package. That is the reason why I bought it and it is the same reason why many others bought the nismo.

hmm, i thought HP was affected as well. I remember a while back a buddy of mine dyno'd his LS1 with chrome corvette rims (heavy) then he took them off and put stockers back on and made a gain of about 15ish...significant

Were the two rims the same size? I know in the RSX community when people went from 16" rims to 17", they lost HP. No idea what lighter wheels do for HP wise. I just know losing some weight will always give better performance.

Shamu, I'd love to see what your stock nismo can do against my car. I mean...I understand its a good starting point and great if you're not into modding....but you need a reality check. We could both have stock cars, but if I put on my RE-11's then you'd be in trouble already. Add 150whp, coilovers, lighter wheels and a good alignment and I'm sorry man, but no fancy front bumper or extra seam welding is going to make up for it.

I love the Nismo and wish I had started from it to keep weight down and for the extra chassis rigidity, but don't kid yourself. I know people focus on numbers and don't realize the importance of better balance, etc. However, your car overheats and has brake failures just like mine did when it was stock. It's no track car, its barely better than the sports package 370z...

where i live, usually faster cars like a gt-r, corvette zr1, porsche 911 would go at normal speeds and the slow cars like a prius would go very fast

+1 for NISMO suspension handling I guess it is what you are paying for. It's not always how fast your motor is, but the way it handles both straight and sharp curve roads.

After that, I put over $20K in mods: GTM stage 2 twin turbo, many cooling mods, greddy tiC turbo exhaust, and VIS carbon fiber hood. After MANY Osiris tuning sessions @ Z1, I am putting down about 500 whp and 388 tq. The car runs great!

Now, someone....NICELY....tell me WHAT a Nismo has that I dont have? Except for the body kit (which DOES NOT improve performance), what does it have that is better than a loaded 370z?

I AM NOT HATING ON NISMOS......please dont go there. I think the Nismo looks good to some, its just not what I want.

I have said to some before that I wish the Nismo WAS to the 370 what the ZR1 is to the vette.....but it is not. If it was, I would have one.

So, without hate, someone educate me!

Thanks,

You came in, tooted your own horn and tried to start another Z vs. Nismo thread. There are many fails here. Let's begin...

You paid full price. Because you just HAD to be the first one behind the wheel? Way to throw away money. Hey!... while we're on the topic of money...

Sure sucks to live in good 'ol TN huh? Because latching onto a Z that early (as I did for about $10,000. less), means that you could have had just about EVERY bit of that claimed $20,000 spent on aftermarket parts paid for through a little patience and R&D (like I did).

The real shame was that with all the $$ you spent, you could have just gotten the GTR and then started a pointless GTR vs. Z thread!
