Another thing to consider is, even if you are a good safe driver, you're going to be parking the car in the school parking lot around a whole slew of other noob drivers. Theres no garuntee even if you drive perfectly that some other kid isn't going to accidentally hit your parked car.

My personal opinion is that no new driver should ever start on a new car. Find a beater to learn on, borrow your Dad's car for dates. I truly believe when you learn on a beater and finally get something nice the appreciation factor for the new vehicle more than doubles. I started off on an '87 Ford Taurus Station wagon, while I hated it at the time, looking back I wouldn't have changed a thing.

this is true, it's not all about being able to handle a car... it is all about experience. not everything about driving can be taught. and since teens are stubborn by nature, they learn everything from mistakes. i bet anyone who got a 370z as their first car has their rims curb-rashed to death lol.

Accidentally? I found that in High School parking lots there are less accidents and more intentional damage done to cars that other students couldn't afford. Get a used car but keep a photo of your Dad's car in your locker to show the ladies. Actually, you could probably get an entire full size mattress in the back of a Ford Taurus Wagon - try that with the Cayman.
