As a car driver and especially when I'm on two wheels, I make it a habit of ensuring that traffic actually stops on their red. IMO it's a huge risk relying on the colour of the traffic light to decide whether or not I can safely pass thru or enter an intersection.
Not saying its your fault, but this is a defensive driving concept that could have avoided the accident. Obviously, its the person's fault who ran the red light, but if there were serious injuries, it doesn't really matter who's fault it was.

Yup, no real recourse if the other driver runs a red light.

But you know, it could have easily been an 18 year old'er in a hurry to meet her boyfriend. Then maybe you could've gotten her phone # first.

Sorry to hear about that wrong place at the wrong time...
Same thing happened to me except i went into the store came back out
and some little old lady had backed into my car. at the time it had 2500 miles on it!!!! take a couple days cool down and get an estimate. it looks worse than it is.. don't worry about the car fax..most times if the car is repaired right and taken care of it won't matter.....

Hell, people of all ages run the red just because they're in a hurry and want to "squeak through" rather than sit for another cycle of the light.
FWIW, the longest light around me takes about a minute and a half to complete a cycle. It's not worth it.
It's also not worth it to launch the car the second the light turns green because there's a good chance someone is trying to beat the yellow or squeak through. Guys on motorcycles get killed this way.

Sorry to see that happen! Doesn't look like anything that can't be fixed, though. I'm sure your Z will be back up and running like a champ shortly.

And what's with all the ageism?

Sure... Except when it is. Some people are spry and fit at age 67, and some can barely walk upright. Most people at that age (at least in this country) are somewhere in between... Laws have to be written so that they can be enforced uniformly and fairly. When people begin to experience loss of ability due to age, often enough that happens quickly. Much better to cut off problems at the onset, then wait until they've gotten so bad that the driver is putting people at risk every time they get behind the wheel.

Accidents can happen to anyone, and I've seen people I consider excellent drivers blow through stop signs, hit curbs, light poles, other cars, whatever. It may be that this woman's failure had nothing to do with her age... Still, it's clear that aging does have an affect on people's reaction times and acuity. At 67 this woman ran a red light, and her driving ability is suspect. It should be evaluated.

Personally, I'd like to see road tests every 4 years for everyone, regardless of age... so long as it's covered by the ridiculous amount of money I'm already paying to get my license renewed. Sure it's inconvenient, but some people just plain can't drive, and they should be removed from the road so they are not a threat to themselves and (more importantly) everyone else. The United States has some of the most lax requirements for getting a driver's license in the western world... It wouldn't hurt my feelings if we had to follow the example of other countries, like Sweden:

Driver's License in Sweden

In 2000, there were 12.3 deaths by automobile per 100,000 people in the U.S.. By comparison, Sweden had only 4.3 deaths per 100,000 people. We killed 3x as many people with our cars, per person, than they did. I think we have something to learn.

I dunno man, remember that delicious 50 year old grandmother from the bowflex commercials?

She's probably about 55 now, and I'd run a train on her with 6-strings and the steves.

I'm curious as to what that expression even means. Google reveals nothing. Is it local to you area or just really old fashioned?
