The new Camaros!

I saw it on the news,"Fourteen thousand pre-sold Camaro's"! I said to my wife,"Damn"! She replied,"That's a lie"! I trust her judgment , more than mine!

I view the Camaro as a muscle car, not a sports car, although this one does a good job of trying to be sporty. And that 14,000 might not be a lie, because people were reserving Camaros ever since Transformers two years ago, even when told it wasn't coming out for some time.

I don't know how many offhand, but I did hear it was a LOT. Also, almost all were the top dog V8s, kind of surprising giving the market.

According to the camaro website, preordering didn't start until October 08.

The power is tempting. But I hardly ever use the limited power of my 350, so what's it really matter to me? But...426 horsepower...and it comes with an oil cooler.

Didn't like it before and still don't now. Power per dollar ratio is nice though. I actually prefer the Mustang to this. I just don't see how this is nice looking but I guess looks are, afterall, subjective in the end...

Maybe I just need to see it in person?

Wish it was smaller & lighter, more like the 4th gens (I owned two of those). But I'm looking at a pic of Imperial Blue Metallic, with the RS pkg (black rims and HIDs) and I can hear it calling me to buy it. It looks wonderfully sinister.

I love the Imperial Blue, Red Jewel, and the Cyber Gray on it.

Some of the option bundling sucks, (have to get 2SS for steering wheel audio controls and the extra gauges?) but that's true on most new cars.

As much as I hate to admit....it is a very cool car. Did you guys even check out all the options you can add!? Go through the "build your own section" and you'll be amazed at all the add-ons they have.

Of course, I would never get one just because it weighs waaaay too much and GM's future is rocky at best.

I have yet to see one in real life, but I think it looks great. If I were still shopping for a new car it would be on my short list for sure. I hope it's a big seller for GM and they can turn things around.

Well I have made my decision and as much as I like the Z the Camaro wins, no replacement for displacement, a long storied history, amazing 0-60, track times, etc etc.... Enjoy your cars boys you all have a sweet ride. I will enjoy mine as well!

The Camaro design looks cool but I wouldn't choose it over the 370Z. and definitely would not buy a GM product with the state the company is in.
And if the new Mustang is anything like the rental I had a couple of weeks ago no thanks. That was the biggest turd I have driven in years. My truck drives better.

Well the z is heavy for it's size. So they kind of even out for power to weight ratio.

I read the thread on the Camaro forum, talking about how the Z and the Chevy weren't really competitors, and I gotta say I agree, but from the opposite angle. Since I want a straight up, no nonsense sports car, I'd NEVER cross shop a vehicle closing in on two tons that needs a monster motor to maintain some semblance of good power/weight. Ick. So it'll get good acceleration numbers. So what? What happens when you get into a tight canyon run or a twisty road course? Think about the transient response. Will the brakes and suspension damping be able to cope with all that mass? I highly doubt it.

We will have to wait and see what kind of numbers it puts out when all the magazines do their testing on the car and how it stacks up against other cars.

I read that the stangs are just carry over's from last years models (engine) and they just tweaked the ext and int.

Totally agree with you, TV, the Z IS heavy for its size. But it's still 400-500 pounds lighter than the Camaro, which is why it doesn't need such a big engine to motivate it down the road (my original point).

400-500 pounds. A quarter of a ton. For what? For back seats that are gonna be cramped anyway? A BMW 7 series the Camaro isn't. The SS will be a cool party piece for sure. People will hear your arrival long before they actually see you drive up. Awesome. That V8 has got loads of tuning potential. Great. But how spectacular could that car have been if Chevy had decided to not go pound for pound with Chrysler/Dodge?

It'd be nice if the Camaro was based on a low-cost version of the Corvette platform, instead of being designed from what is basically a full-size-sedan chassis. But the Corvette people would scream bloody murder if Chevy had a 3300 lb Camaro with an LS3 for 30k. Heck I'm surprised GM allowed the 4th gen F-bodies to get as close to the C4/C5 as they did.
