The new Camaros!

Well it's here. They have a new website out in case no one knew about it. What do you guys think about the options and what not.

Love the styling, but little else, and would not own it as GM's future is unfortunately, seriously in doubt. Too bad.

Still not sure what I think of this car. I saw it in 2005, and thought it looked really nice, but it has changed a good bit since then. Now with the new Z I lean even farther from it, I use to love the old school muscle cars when I was little but have grown away from the heavy, bulky, bloated cars.

Now do not get my comments wrong, I still think they are solid cars, but I feel like they are trying to hard with the retro looks.

The Camaro less so than the new Challenger. The Challenger is virtually a carbon-copy set loose in today's world...eerie.

is it even possible that a near 4k pound car is going to get 29mpg highway with there auto? I mean if it is great but why do i not believe it?

That is true, I was shocked when I first saw the new Challenger in person. I just feel like they are not bring enough to the table, I know they want to make the past owners happy with something like this. I just see it as a lack of innovation on their part, they could have gone farther with this, but instead just took an old idea and updated a bit.

I read the thread on the Camaro forum, talking about how the Z and the Chevy weren't really competitors, and I gotta say I agree, but from the opposite angle. Since I want a straight up, no nonsense sports car, I'd NEVER cross shop a vehicle closing in on two tons that needs a monster motor to maintain some semblance of good power/weight. Ick. So it'll get good acceleration numbers. So what? What happens when you get into a tight canyon run or a twisty road course? Think about the transient response. Will the brakes and suspension damping be able to cope with all that mass? I highly doubt it.

Looks like it will be a great car, but I have a feeling GM is going to screw it up like they did last time around. I think the Mustang will continue to outsell it.

Had GM made good use its 3.6L (as they are actually doing so with it as option) as the only motor, and reduced the actual scale of the Camaro down at least 1/4 to almost 1/3 its size, then GM would have been in-touch with today's market. The new Mustang definitely has the scale of the car correct. Too bad others did not take the same lead, and that includes the Challenger. Had they, sales would have increased exponentially. Not only that they would have had a car that could have transitioned into the future, instead it will get stuck in time.

I really like the styling of the Camaro, but in person you really get a sense of its size. The damn thing is huge and it looks every bit of 2 tons. It just doesn't look like a proper sports car in person. Aside from just looking heavy, it really is a porker and will not make me happy on a road course.

PS: I was seriously considering the Camaro but lurking on Camaro5.com cured me of ever wanting one. If the members of that site are typical Camaro owners, I don't want to be lumped together with those annoying, childish "enthusiasts." Never have I ever run across a bigger group of fanboys blind to reality.

While the exterior is plenty appealing, the interior is garbage. VERY cheap looking. But, that's why not why you buy a camaro I suppose.

No, but that is why I don't buy one.

I sat in one at the auto show, and I felt like I was sitting on the floor. I'm 6 feet tall and I felt like I couldn't see over the dash and hood. The view out of the Z was so much better. Plus the interior was as hard-plasticy as the 350Z. Cool design for the interior, but crap materials.

I like the camaros, mainly because of the engine and its mod potential (and the lovely sound of a V8). Bolt ons should free a lot of power from that engine. But for me it's more than just about straight-line speed. It's about the whole driving experience. And in the regard, the Z wins hands down, imo.

I sat one too, and felt embarrassed for GM putting out such a horrible interior. I think comparing it to the 350 is giving it too much credit. But I had cars with ls1s, ls2s, and ls6s; and if you want a damn fast car that can net serious gains just from bolt ons, it's a winner. I'm just at a point in life where I am willing to sacrifice some HP for a lot more quality.
