My opinion is "whatever". It doesn't bother me, and it was made that way, so I don't much care. It's not like it's a flaw.

IIRC it's an anti-whiplash measure in case of an accident. The idea being that your back being forced into your seat from a rear end collision will keep your neck from violently jerking back.

Then again, I've drunk a lot since I read my owner's manual. I also remember a section on Hobbits and a section about taking the CHFI test.
