I would NEVER consider a Hyundai over a Nissan Z because of that. Nissan will always be ahead; plain and simple. You can't make up for 40 years of research, design, and motorsports experience. I absolutely love Mitsubishi cars, and if they came out with a new 2 door sports coupe I would consider it. Why? Because they would at least know what they're doing when it comes to building a track-ready sports car. They have a long history of doing so, even if it's been a long time since they produced a RWD sports car.

You can argue that I'd also say that a company on Koenigsegg has nothing on, say, Ferrari. But that's not true. Koenigsegg, (the new) Bugatti, Gumpert, Ascari etc. all have something to Ferrari that Hyundai does not have to Nissan. TONS and tons of money and time into R&D, and a true feeling of irrationality and soul about their cars. That's what a sports car is about. The Hyundai Genesis Coupe lacks that extreme level of R&D, and it even lacks the true intent to be tracked. The mere fact that it's marketed as having an extreme value for the money (read: is a cheap POS) shows that it's not a properly R&D'd sports car. It's honestly just been thrown together such that it sells well. We may have issues where Nissan cheaped out on an oil cooler, but the Hyundai Genesis Coupe wasn't even ready for road/track testing when it hit the states; it had severe performance issues until Hyundai sat back down at the drawing board to fix some alignment issues and ECU parameters. Those are two very core items that should have been flogged to death and discovered during internal testing @ Hyundai. That just goes to show how poorly the car was engineered from the start. It was built for nothing more than to look good on a spec sheet.
Have you driven a Genesis?
I own a 2010 Z but the Genesis Coupe has been making more headlines that the Z lately. Something has to be done about this....

I looked at a couple when I was purchasing my Evo X, but never test drove one. I was too turned off by the look and feel of the car, and the poorly-oriented interior to even bother. I've never once said it was a turd of a car, just that it's clearly nothing compared to a Z.

Hyundai has been dumping a boatload of cash into marketing. They've done a phenomenal job turning their brand image around; but only time will tell if their cars are actually better now. It's been well known for decades that almost all review magazines are sleeping with the manufacturers. And the initial quality ratings have been bogus for a long time. Not once have they ever taken into account that buyers of higher-end cars are generally more picky than those of lower-end cars.

WORST. LOGIC. EVER.

Ford started racing in 1901. Did you hear that correctly? 19 . . . 01. So the Z is about 70 years behind in racing pedigree. I guess it'll never catch up . . .

It's obvious you have no idea what you're talking about.

It's obvious you're just an ******* just wanting an argument.

I never said Hyundai won't be where Nissan is now in 10-20 years. I'm simply saying they cannot possibly pose as a true competitor right now because Nissan has approximately 30-40x more experience doing this. Nissan has had 40 years to catch up with everybody else and pull ahead in certain aspects. Hyundai has had 1.

Ford has HAD a car that is arguably a better sports car than Nissan has ever produced - the Ford GT. Your example actually supports what I have to say... And we can argue all day about the GT-R, but I'd much rather have the true driver's supercar that is the Ford GT.

It's your logic that is flawed. Don't put words in my mouth.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the Genesis Coupe riding on the same platform as the sedan? It would be like Lexus/Toyota designing a sports car version of the LS460. The result would be a half-@$$ "sporty" car and not a sports car. In my opinion, thats no way to design a coupe, let alone a sports car.

Maybe the Genesis Coupe does have a soul, it just happens to be the soul of a fat lumbering sedan. The Genesis Coupe isn't a bad car, it's just not in the same league as the 370Z, V8 or otherwise. More power doesn't make for a better sports car. Look at the Challenger or Camaro. Loads of power, but take it to the track and Mini Coopers will run laps around it with the right driver. I'm sure Hyudai will eventually build a proper sports car, this isn't it and won't be for at least 10 years. I would drive a Hyudai, but I wouldn't consider buying one just yet.

This is starting to feel like deja vu. Forum threads ending up bashing other cars and brands. It's making Z guys look like douchebags. Just respect what others make. Have your opinion, just don't be an @$$ about it.

Nobody is really bashing the Genesis Coupe here. I'm not afraid to bash Hyundai as a brand, though - I'm fairly confident no real car enthusiasts will be backing them at the end of the day. They're still peddlers of cheap Korean junk. Have you personally known anybody to buy a Genesis Coupe or Genesis Sedan? I haven't... shows how little these cars appeal to real enthusiasts.

actually being a car enthusiast is about being respectful of all cars and understanding that cars are built for purposes and reasons other than the ones that matter to you.

Aka Hyundai didnt set out to make a PURE sports car. They wanted to make a sportier car that most people could get. Thus the 20k price point vs 30k on the z. The 4 seats vs 2.. etc. Obviously, we here on this forum are the exception to the people who need 4 seats. Its also why you see the biased opinions.

If you were truly an enthusiast then you would appreciate what Hyundai is trying to do and where they are headed, not bash them based on their reputation from 15 years ago.

The Hyundai Sonata's have been great everyday sedans. Comfortable, quiet, better equiped and priced than the competition by car. How is that a bad thing? As an enthusiast you would also want competition in each market to help better every brand.

So yes, I know many enthusiats who drive Hyundai's. I know people who traded in corvettes for a Sonata. Their priorities in what they need and want change, doesnt mean their idiots. I also know people who traded in Hyundai's for 370'z.

Personally i'd say the 370 could do with some good proper competition (non-muscle cars) and then we can see where that leads to in 5-6 years.

P.S in terms of "cheap" korean junk, i hope you don't personally own any samsung, LG, etc products. Heck actually or anything manufactured in China, so then need to give up that Iphone stuff too. (Korean manufacturing > Chinese in terms of quality)
