Or at least checked it. Published oil change intervals have NOTHING to do with the owners need to check and maintain the car. This guy was an idiot and deserves the bill for repair. Sounds like he beat the crap out of the car. I have absolutely no sympathy here.
Morons that abuse their cars probably have other issues too. You probably wouldn't want to be his girlfriend. Spoiled rich kid comes to mind..
