Why are you going to the dealership for the oil change? I went for my first but no more... got my second elsewhere. I stood next to the guy and watched him do everything nice and good. Dealership oil change costs are about twice vs. 80-90 dollar an hour repair shops, good ones.. I'm not even saying goto Walmart tire n lube..
I paid $85 or so at my mechanic, vs. almost twice of that at the dealership. Now that I've seen it step by step and there's a nice thread by AK370 with pics/instructions to do it yourself I'm gonna try the next time. |

Having a service history is a huge advantage if you ever go to privately sell the vehicle. You CAN document buying the oil, record the mileage, and throw that into the folder with the rest, but that doesn't always happen if your hands are covered in oil and you're tired/sweaty. |

I think your right, but the dealerships are just like other business some better or more honest than others. For the record the dealership where i bought my z at charges 75.00 for mobil 1 oil change. For service i tend to go there just in case i have a problem they can't say the car was never serviced right. |

Exactly....My dealership offers free oil changes for life....Unlikely I'll ever take advantage of this, but it's definitely a value added perk for the non-enthusiast purchasers..

Let me translate out of dealership speak: A) An oil change for the Z is $140 at the dealership B) A 7,500 mile service is $310, but the oil change is free, so $170 The only "Free" oil change is one that is included in a service package like the 7,500 mile, which also includes checking fluids and a tire rotation. But tire rotations don't apply to the Z, so your basically paying 30$ for someone to look at the 4 or 5 fluids. Notice the lingo, CHECK the fluids, not refill them if need be. Oh yea, forgot to mention, they put your car through the car wash too! A full tank of gas makes a top of the line machine car wash all of 8$ so to me thats not that much of a value. No thanks, for 85$ i can get 6 quarts of redline and an oil filter and do it myself. Last edited by rarwz; 06-10-2010 at 07:56 AM. Reason: added car wash |
