oh I hear ya. That's why I said HOPEFULLY he'd be honest. With any luck maybe he's recently had wheels stolen or something like that.

Bottom line, unless you park the car/truck in Fort Knox, you're never safe.

I'm completely against wheel locks. I garage the nice cars anyway and I'd much rather get my wheels stolen than have an angry, frustrated thief bust out my windows and bang up my car with a breaker bar or jack handle.

So obviously you leave your house unlocked for fear of having a burglar kicking in the doors or busting a window to get in?

You must also leave your car doors unlocked (not to mention the garage that you keep them in) and windows down too?

How are any of those ignorant behaviors similar to not believing in wheel locks? My argument was perfectly valid. I'd rather have my wheels nicked with my car relatively unscathed than my entire car trashed by a vengeful thief. That's what $50 comprehensive deductibles are for anyway.

Wheels can be replaced, but a completely trashed car will never be "like new" again.

By your argument, I'd be taking the wheels off the car each time I park it and leaving them next to it for somebody to steal. That is an open door for a thief, simply not having pointless, easily circumvented wheel locks is not.

haha no, his statement was VERY accurate. YOUR argument of taking the wheels off and leaving them for someone to steal would be like taking all your TVs, art work, and jewlery out of your house and setting it on the sidewalk for people to take.

Not locking your wheels = not locking your doors.

it's a cost-benefit analysis..

what's more valuable? the door/window or the stuff in the house? the stuff in the house is more valuable (including you and the family), so the doors stay locked and the burglar has to break the door to make it inside.

with the z, what's more costly to you personally? replacing the wheels or fixing actual damage to the car (which may be minimal or severe)? replacing the wheels costs less, thanks to insurance, and the car won't suffer any damage that could trigger a salvage title. so in this case, it makes more sense to leave off the locks. (this assumes, of course, that thieves do more damage to a car if it's got wheel locks. if not, then the locks should stay on.)

over the many break-ins i've suffered, the value of the stolen stuff has been much much less than the cost of fixing windows/body damage/lock damage/paint. so if i know a thief is going to make it into my car either way, why not leave the doors unlocked and save myself the repair cost?

the wheels/tires/TPS/lug nuts + labor costs for my Jeep cost just under $10K. That would have to be A LOT of broken windows and scratched paint.

My buddy and I are at odds with our driveways. I have automatic lights to deter crime while he thinks it gives crooks light to work in. Were your thieves working in the dark or light?

but at least losing your wheels wouldn't risk your car getting a salvage title, which would be the worst part of having your car significantly damaged..

Also less time consuming. If they damage the window or scratch the paint...etc you have to deal with that then just getting a rim put on.

I think that a lot of people are assuming here that the thief is that determined. In some cases, sure, but there's another class of thieves who will simply steal the first set that is most convenient. There are thieves that walk around pulling door handles until they find one open, and then just do a snatch and grab for loose change.

Not every thief is some billy bad@$$ who will break into a car.

Locking Lugz are nice to have but not a guarantee. I figure why spend the extra cash for lug locks...if they want it they will get it...and with lug locks no tellin what more damage they would do if they are having trouble gettin' them off....just use a garage and lower your insurance to 0 deductible on comprehensive....just think positive....stolen wheels...make claim....new rims and tires

Positive...That is why I don't roll aftermarket just keep it stock and work on performance and lookz...
