On a positive note - washed and did my first uber detailing with Griot's paint Sealant and Best of Show Wax. Found a small clear coat scratch on the lower driver's door and was able to buff it out.

On the negative side - picked-up my Texas plates and mounted the front bracket. I can deal with drilling the holes in the front facia, but the bracket is a p.o.s. What dolt would design a plate bracket that is so shallow, the backing nuts really don't fit properly?

I reversed the clips for now, but the plate sticks out from the bracket which leads to my other negative for the day. With the lousy fit of the plate on the bracket, I decided to just attach the plate to the bracket with my new roll of 3M VHB tape, but it's miraculously disappeared. I had to order it from 3M because I couldn't find any at Home Depot or Lowes. Arghhh!

I'm going to figure out a better permanent solution for the front plate. I'm going to look for some really thin nuts and a set of short screws that will work behind the bracket.

Houston Cars and Coffee is next Saturday, and I want it fixed when I show up. Here's a picture pre-plates:

Sounds and looks good gurney! that's some setup you got there with Griots PaintSealant core + Best of Show for LSP. :) very durable and 3D finish.

Cool. Their instruction in Japanese wasn't that great either. It said place mounting tape on back side. No duh... wat they wanted to say was the tape is to make contact with the very rear portion of the factory spoiler.

Cleaned every loose item out of my car to prepare for my first AutoX event tomorrow  Only things left are: radar detector, floor & trunk mats, spare tire and tools. They will all come out right before the race.

BTW -- OUR SPARE WHEEL LOOKS COOL

TheGreatOne 09-24-2011 08:44 PM

Went down to the garage at about 2 am, decided to do the DIY Nismo Engine cover and finally install my Injen Intakes.

Wrapped up around 5am lol....took my time and also cause I dropped one of the vibration stabilizer thingys for the intake in the engine bay...twice...couldn't find it the 2nd time...loosened the undertray...nothing rolled out...its rubber mostly...so hopefully all is well

Took the cover off and motored out to Shakedown BBQ for their fall Creole-style Low Country Boil.

Thanks for the props guys. Now I need to descide what I want done at the shop. I think a nav/rear cam settup. Have to read on the audio/vis area to see what looks good and what will utilize some of what I already have like serius and blue tooth. Hey Ken read back to my questions on the lugs.

@Luna,

Nice pic! I always feel self conscious after going to a BBQ as I can always smell the food on my clothes afterwards and I don't want my car to smell like BBQ. :icon17:

Fire 09-24-2011 09:55 PM

OMG GR8 your avitar shows a serious breach of topless law. No running of car with top down and windows up. :gtfo2: J/K but really the windows should be down  The vert automatically pulls the BBQ smell out when your speed excedes 60 mph with the top and windows down.

Haha! I hear you on that. This place cooks and smokes with wood, so you end up smelling like you've been sitting around the campfire. That's actually a kind of nice smokey smell versus what how I smell when I stop at the cigar shop.
I only make those trips when I know I'll be driving with the windows down ;)

Footloose301 09-25-2011 06:50 AM

I love camp fire and BBQ smells. Wish they made it into an air freshener.

Also forgot to mention that I acquired my first "experience" marks on my FI canisters while motoring yesterday.
I was a bit aggressive on some of the back roads I took to Shakedown and ran out of clearance on a bumpy road. Oh well, watcha gonna do?

I was unaware that you were running the FI exhaust. Awesome:tup: Listen Luna, if I drove around worrying about scraping or rock chips Id have way less fun. Although I really wish I did the clear bra when I got it, thats my biggest regret. My front end would make some people cringe on here. My car is def no showgirl:icon17:

Well, honestly if that's the first time you've scraped your FI after being lowered then I think it's a fantastic testament of the perfect drop height of the Swift springs!

Mrs. Luna said that yesterday's drive was more WRC than GT Academy thanks to my route choice and the the debris left from this month's sotrms.
Ha!

Ken if you don't answer my lug questions I'm going to cut your Chan off LOL I'd like to know if they come in black and if they would work with stock Rays. Who makes them? I'd like to do a search online also.
DL can a Chevy v-8 be stuffed in there? LOL what engine in the Abarth?
Luna driving is what makes our cars real. Scratches and dings are badges of honor, hey if things get too bad a repaint or rap will fix it.:driving:

No need to tell me this. If you looked at my Miata, a Championship winning Solo II and ProSolo car, in person, you'd see it's one of those 10 (20?) footer cars riddled with stone chips and cone bites.
My race bikes only photographed well because my toolbox contained duct tape in black, red, yellow and white to correspond with my paint job

Most aftermarket lugs won't work with stock wheels.
Stock rays require a 12x1.25 MAG style nut.

Most lugs for aftermarket rims are a 60* conical (still 12x1.25 though).

Pretty rare to find aftermarket MAG lug nuts.

Fire 09-25-2011 03:43 PM

Congrats on your soloII running. I'm going to run solocross next year. It is a little hard for me as I work every other weekend. But I want to get back into it. I ran with my 280z and 1991 firebird a few years back.

Fire,

Sorry for the slow reply! The Abarth has a 1.4 liter turbo 4cyl. Dont laugh it gets the business done and weighs nothing. The US model will come standard with 170+hp from what Ive read.

I have 165+ps so almost 170 hp with a G-tech ecu. G-tech is one of the best after market tuners for Porsche, Lambo and they have a lot of lines for the Abarth.

The performance is quite good about the same as a Cooper-S or better. The combined fuel economy I have is 7.6liter/per 100km or 31mpg. On the Autobahn its even better. It has a nice cockpit and a fantastic growling exhaust note, very aggressive and strong for such a car. IT has real personality and I love the machine. Its a fun sporting drive with some economy to boot!

Great interior and racing wheel and aluminum pedals etc. Built for driving!

Fire 09-25-2011 04:00 PM

Sounds like good hp for it's size.:tiphat:

When I was in London over the summer, these things were zipping around everywhere. It took me a week to figure out what they were.
I totally wanted to stuff one into my suitcase and bring it home ;)
