After a three week mini hibernation, I started her up and pulled out into the driveway. My intention was to just get her up to temp and put her away again.
But I couldn't just leave it at that. I went around the block :driving: slowly.
There is still patches of snow in my neighborhood.
I wiped her down and she is tucked away again. :(
I don't know how long this time but I'll look forward to our time together.

I hate winter even more now. :shakes head: The southern states are calling. :hello:

Enjoyed a nice 2nd gear rip up to redline to clear a pack of yahoos jockeying for position at a red light. Not to rub it in, but 74 and partly cloudy here today....

mick 12-20-2010 01:50 PM

it stopped raining for a while so i took it out of the garage to get some food and do a little bit of cruising. luckily i was driving within the speed limit because before i could spot him, a police car sped up and drove right beside me :)

The weather is one of the best things about living in the south. I can drive my Zs practically year round.

Then again if it was July or August I would be complaining about the heat and humidity. :shakes head:

kenchan 12-20-2010 01:57 PM

clemenson- is your z on flatstoppers? tire pressured up to 42psi? :)

why do you do this? you're going to have vapor in the midpipe (exhaust) and your oil temp is too low to get the moisture out of the engine. you're also putting burden on your battery and alternator. if you're going to fire her up, go drive it at least until your oil temp is 180F (15min or so minimum).

or do it like us. dont start the car at all, leave it plugged in, placed on flatstoppers. :hello:

Well that is part of the reason I went around the block. I intend to drive it as the weather permits (which hasn't been cooperating lately) so I do not want to winterize. Its tough to get the oil up to 180 when its 20 degrees out no matter how you do it.
I appreciate the concern though. :tiphat:

kenchan 12-20-2010 02:06 PM

hummm... ive had the oil temp up to 180F the last time i drove in sub 30F weather...

anyway, GL!

Thanks - this particular cover has a flap of fabric behind the grommet holes for this reason I think? The guy I bought the car from included this cover and the cord that came with it. I got some bungees so it would be easier to remove and hooked from the inside out. I don't think this will keep the back from flapping up on top of the hood like it did last week? I guess we'll see..

My cover is designed the same way.

Nothing, my baby is sitting in the garage. It has been raining here in Vegas for the last 4 days. I just got it polished, so I'm driving my truck till the rain stops and the roads dry up. Then I can bring her back out and enjoy my nice shiny Z!

nurseryboy 12-21-2010 09:13 PM

Went to go get another session on my tattoo, and when I pulled into traffic from a light I forgot that it was a little chilly out and spun through first and second with traction control on. I kinda apologized to the car afterwards, lol.

Nismoracer 12-24-2010 11:48 AM

Went to starbucks and listened to a kid asking me how fast my car is and that he raced one in an f150 and beat it. Then he asked what color my car was. It's black. Black is black. Don't know of any other variations of black. It's black as black can be. Then listened to him say how awesome it is over and over and over and that he was getting a camero for HIGH SCHOOL graduation. Wow, for high school.

98intrigue 12-24-2010 01:24 PM

I ordered Project Kics for her.

Endgame 12-24-2010 01:44 PM

raced my wife in her cx7.

no contest

LunaZ 12-24-2010 05:21 PM

I took the battery out. That wasn't on my list, though.
In the process of attaching proper terminal leads for my Battery Minder (I didn't feel good about the clamps), I dropped a nut that went under the battery tray. Besides the fact that I needed this nut to tighten the negative battery cable, I didn't want to just replace it with a new one and leave the old one rattling around in the battery compartment. Let me just say, what a pain in the *** it is to get the battery out of this car!
Put it all back together, reprogrammed all my settings in the car, and came in to check the forum to get my windows to work properly.
Topped off the tank and added some Stabil, then I went for a drive.
Backed it into the driveway to see if having the back of the car facing the garage door would help alleviate the problem of the cover lifting during windy conditions. Hooked up the Battery Minder and put on the cover.
That project took 2 hours longer than it was supposed to.
Having a drink. Whew.

Mike 12-24-2010 06:20 PM

looked at it in the garage, like most days.

LunaZ 12-27-2010 08:34 AM

I re-applied the car cover.
It doesn't stay on for sh*t in gusty conditions.
For some unexplicable reason, my windows were down. I had a freakin' heart attack!

ZPirate 12-27-2010 01:12 PM

Drove it on Christmas afternoon.

Since then its been in the garage because fo the snow.

Mt Tam I am 12-27-2010 03:06 PM

This morning I left the house around 9AM, a nice 51*F, clear, sunny and still a bit wet from days of rain. Although the road conditions were not perfect for all out driving, it was not bad for spirited mountain fun either. In all my life the drive I took has never been totally devoid of cars and bicyclists, until today. After twenty minutes I met another car, who knew what he was doing. He pulled off after 5 minutes and left the coastal then country road wide open.

When I arrived at my destination, a bakery 45 minutes from home, in a town of 200, far from the beaten path, I ordered 5 loaves of bread as they came from the oven. Hopped in the car and raced home. Except for the Volvo which needed passing, the handful of cars I encountered used the first pull out they found.

What a great drive home too, the smell of freshly baked bread, coupled with my new Hotchkis sways made for a great first day off. The last time I made this drive in a spirited way I went into limp mode. With the oil cooler I never hit 220* albeit 8* cooler ambient temp.

I'm giving blood at 4PM just for grins later, so I've got another drive yet today.

TypeOne 12-27-2010 03:11 PM

I put new new PWJDM shift knob in and Alpine components...

Time to give my Z a bath but damn it's cold!!

That sounds like a perfect day. BTW: The Hotchkis sways made one of the biggest differences of my modfications.

My Z is clean and covered -- sitting in my garage awaiting my return from Minnesota.

caodan2010 12-27-2010 03:36 PM

I scratched it on a pole next to my garage... g dammit

It was perfect. I am sorry for your wait. Thanks for the nod. :tiphat:

kenchan 12-27-2010 04:47 PM

Will check up on her later on today. :p. Wont be driving her though... too salty outside.

Junior370z 12-27-2010 05:16 PM

Changed the oil in the Z. Then polished the intake pipes!

chuckd05 12-27-2010 05:23 PM

I brushed snow and ice off of her, started her up and took her for a spin around the block to see how the blizzacks worked.. I was amazed.. Have another car to travel in and wont be driving in snow unless necessary but at least i know I can now.

Have about 19 inches of snow outside mind you... roads were plowed but she did good through layers of thick snow and even up a hill covered in ice. Blizzacks LM 25s FTW

98intrigue 12-27-2010 06:48 PM

My car threw an SES light...so I drove to Advanced Auto after I got off work.

plato 12-27-2010 09:47 PM

I got to leave work early so I got to enjoy a wide empty highway for some spirited driving. Had a huge smile on my face when I got home. :)

EazyD 12-27-2010 10:25 PM

Brushed snow off of it with my soft gloves and let it run for a bit after I got home from the holidays. Parked it in a spot that the apt. complex plowed nicely, under the street light where it belongs for all to see

PapoZalsa 12-27-2010 11:51 PM

Look at it after about 5 days of not seeing my Z, X-Mas vacation. ;)

Nismoracer 12-28-2010 09:20 PM

Put in Garmin NAV.

jayl 12-29-2010 10:51 AM

got the 1st oil change done!

mick 12-29-2010 11:20 AM

i am done driving it for the year.
total mileage = 4,154 miles.

Trips 12-29-2010 12:11 PM

I waxed the new hood, and took updated pics for my album :)

98intrigue 12-29-2010 12:20 PM

^looks awesome, Triple!

I ordered center caps finally...but I think I want new wheels. My friend just showed me CCWs new wheel on his 350. Only they made wheels bigger than 18"...that's just too small for our cars :(
