Yeah, clearly there are a lot of idiots that read/post on Jalopnik. You can very clearly tell what happened just by looking at the two pictures.

BTW, we want our "after" pics!

A-WALL? I think you mean AWOL - which stands for Absent WithOut Leave, in the military world...

HornetZ 05-11-2010 01:28 PM

Cunnos, in the future take up two spots. Strangely enough most people won't **** with you. I do it with my good cars because I don't need some ******* messing it up. It's not illegal and do it somewhere out in the parking lot so that in the rare event someone does try anything they'll get the blame for trying to start a fight. People in general need to leave car enthusiasts alone, we didn't hurt anyone so leave us the hell alone. We're higher on the food chain, in my opinion.

DjSquall 05-11-2010 01:28 PM

Yeah man, the comments there are from idiots who never read the story. As I've said before, I feel very bad about what happened to you man, and hope it works out for the better!

I hear you man, the past few weeks have given me a totally different perspective about driving. There is something about a beautiful sports car that appeals to everyone. I get really aggravated when people look at nice cars and hold certain stigmas or opinions about the drivers. Its not until you own one yourself, that you can truly appreciate every aspect of the car, specifically the design, the engine, the interior, color, etc or in my case the rarity of a car. I dont want to brag or piss people off, i want to drive my car, enjoy it, and not have to listen or deal with people who dont know what they are talking about. That being said, i look forward to getting my Z repaired and getting back out on the road.

Thank you everyone for the support and assistance during this dark time. I will give you an update tomorrow

Agreed. I get thumbs up, waves and dirty looks evertwhere I go. A kid in a sports car, that's sure to piss people off! The jealous types will always be there, and I hope to never become a victim of a hate crime such as this.

Also please put up the aftermath pics, we really want to see them!!

Smart man, havign dealt with people from the middle east, you made the smart move. Not speaking or all of them, but EVERY SINGLE ONE of them I've dealt with would give you a dollar figure that sounds reasonable, then later say they didn't say that, and would adjust the number to less than that amount, then adjust it again, and again...to the point where they are just insulting you over and over...

Go through your insurance. It's obviously a collision claim, and the resonsible party should pay for it...

And, watch...they won't have insurance.

After that is approved he will get a check from the morons insurance company.

This process and take days and even weeks to complete. I totally feel for the OP in this situation. Please post more damage pictures and of course pics when it is repaired!

While the adjuster will give a check (sometimes on the spot) - do not cash that check until the work is completed.

take it to the dealer. They'll know who the good body shops are in town. Go through the dealer for any parts.

The door panels are not cheap...neither are the front fender panels - probably a good 6-8K of damage there...at least.

Fortunately insurance is mandatory for registration in his state. Both cars have MA plates. If it was a NH plate then I would be concerned as that is an insurance optional state.

wishihadnav 05-11-2010 03:32 PM

adjusters typically deal directly with the body shop estimater..estimaters give the adjuster a figure for labor and parts..the adjuster either approves or asks for modification of the estimate based on his findings...its pretty simple..

Cunnos,

I so very sorry at your loss. I can't explain in words how sad this is (considering the fact it's a limited production car). When I saw this yesterday, part of my heart died. I don't know if I could handle it if this happened to my car :(

Well, I wish you good luck with everything and PLEASE keep us posted. I hope everything works out.

As it is in my state and my former state...but that doesn't stop people from not paying after they get their registration, thus cancelling the policy...

Hey Cunnos, I hope you don't take this the wrong way and get offended, but I couldn't resist. Just having a little fun (but not making fun of your situation, if that makes any sense).

OK Semtex that was pretty funny, i needed that, good laugh for sure. Just to give you all an update, i went to the appraiser and he is filing the papers with the Nissan dealership, which i have heard does incredible body/pain work, i dont think you can go wrong with having the dealership do it. My insurance company just has to approve it, so i have to wait and see at this point. ALSO, i will be hiring a LAWYER to review whether or not to sue her for diminished value or loss of value. So i will keep you all posted on that AND POST "AFTER" pics

I called the dealership today and told them what happened and they are very saddened and pissed. This was the only one they sold, so they are not happy

Heh, where I'm from, haters go out of their way to mess with a double-parked car, especially if it's nice or valuable. And am I wrong in assuming you can get a parking ticket for, well, double-parking?

Seriously, taking up two spots will draw you as much scorn as leaving your dog in the car on a hot day. You become the villain, because people ain't got enough problems in their own lives that they have to hate on you.

shadoquad 05-11-2010 05:25 PM

Plus you're likely to get one of these stuck to your car.

FuszNissan 05-11-2010 05:28 PM

Diminished value is a must!

Nick911sc 05-11-2010 05:29 PM

With this ladies driving skills and vision I'm sure his car would be ****** up far worse if he parked in the middle of two spots. I'd go as far to say her car would be on top of his.

Glad you got a laugh out of it, man. Diminished value is typically paid by the other driver's insurance company, assuming the other driver was at fault (which she obviously was in your case). Point is, you shouldn't need to sue to get DV.

semtex 05-11-2010 05:38 PM

Btw, I'm thinking that lady needs one of these on her car:

Double parking is when you're parked next to a car that's already parallel parked, ie you're in the middle of the street. I've asked the local cops about doing that and they say it's not illegal to take up two spots in a parking lot. And no other people have no legal right to intentionally damage your car just because they feel like being an asswipe that day. That's why I said take up two spaces out in the lot somewhere away from most cars. I also have a 2004 Spec V and on at least a couple of occasions people have parked too close on purpose because they're dickheads. When I saw Iron Man 2 this past friday some asswipe in a chevy malibu decided to try to crowd my driver side even though i specifically parked next to the median curb and as far as i could so that people couldn't park too close. I will not let people mess up my cars period. If yall want to be passive about it and let people f-ck up your cars that's your choice but i'll be damned if I let some loser cost me any money.

My point is, people mess with your car regardless. I guess you're right that taking two spots will lower your vulnerability, but if they wanna get at you, they're gonna.

I think you have kinda answered why guys go out of their way to do bad things to cars taking 2 spots. It draws attention and its not good attention. Yes they are haters but since you asked for the attention by taking 2 spots they are more than happy to give you attention by screwing with the car. I have had 3 very nice cars in the last 10 yrs and I park regular next to others and all and I can actually say I have not had a noticable door ding from cars hitting mine with their doors. Lucky? Probably but Im sure if I always took 2 spots someone would go out of their way to screw with the car.
