Understandable it can be dangerous, but nothing is going to come of a police report unless it was on camera. This isn't like CSI or anything on TV, either 1) cops don't do anything or 2) cops do do anything, both parties get lawyers spend a shitload of money and eventually nothing comes of it.
I had my tires slashed and entire 350z keyed about 4 years ago, I knew exactly who did it, but I could not prove it.
But yes, you are right, he shouldn't take it into his own hands he should probably try and get over it. It's done, theres probably nothing he can do.
