Generally speaking, Nissan has not recommended synthetic oil (at least it didn’t in the 350…I haven’t look at my owner’s manual to see if it still says it’s not recommended).

Generally speaking, Nissan has not recommended synthetic oil (at least it didn’t in the 350…I haven’t look at my owner’s manual to see if it still says it’s not recommended). I can tell you, however, that I’ve never heard of anyone having problems because they used or didn’t use synthetic.
Personally, on a brand new car/engine, I change the oil somewhere between the first 25-50 miles (or at least as soon as I can get it done)…and then I would change it at least as often as every 3 months/3,000 miles thereafter (I do it every 1,500 miles/6 weeks for a vehicle I autocross). I believe that if you change your oil/filter on both a frequent and regular basis, then the most of the benefit of synthetic oil goes away. BTW...Mobil1 used to be the best but they changed their formulation a while ago and is not as good as it once was; Amsoil still uses the better formulation (not sure where RP rates in that mix).
