Default Octane Booster?

Greetings and salutations! So it’s near impossible to find anything but regular gas (89 octane) here in GA due to the Colonial Pipeline fiasco. Cars been tuned for 93. Am I safe putting this crap in my tank and filling with regular? Can there be too much octane? Anything I should know? Not looking to race and I’m hoping this is a temporary thing. I just need to get to work. Can I baby it?

Get some toluene.

anyone use Lucas octane booster or any octane booster?

You'd have a better experience adding toluene alone to your fuel.

Too much octane, no such thing just at some point you will be maxed. I have used Boostane as an octane booster with good results and my tuner is a fan of it as well.

This article actually has some decent info. Seems pretty honest about everything. Your situation is one of the few that an octane booster is good for.

^this. I know someone with a 600whp tt z32 that doesn't have access to e85 so he runs 91 octane with Boostane and is tuned by the same tuner. He love's the Boostane.

Thanks! Great article! I’m still on the fence if I want to use this stuff or find a different way to get to work. I really don’t want to damage anything.

You won't damage anything just take it easy and it will be fine. As long as you are not hot rodding it around you should be fine. If you are getting regular that is 87 octane. Mid grade is 89.

If you are tuned for 93, you might want to use booster to get to 88-89, but, as long as you are not dogging it, you should be OK. ECM should retard timing if it detects any knocking. Keep a close eye on temps.

I think you'll be fine with 89. Listen for knocking.

Our Porsche Macan S requires 93 and even dealer told us we can use 91. We have not noticed any issues using 91. Maybe timing is adjusted by ECM and we don't notice, but no lag, or power loss noticed. She's a Banshee. Certainly no pinging.

Our mid grade here is 91. Regular is 89. I asked a while ago if there was an actual “tank” for mid grade. Was told no, the pump blends 89 and 93 making 91.

Another question I have is if I can run corn (e85) on a 93 tune. It’s a moot point since there was no corn either.

But anywho... I was able to score a full tank of 93 today. Ironically for less than what I was paying before the pipeline shutdown due to our Governor eating the tax. Someone else will have to be the Guinea Pig on this one. I’m still running cats and I didn’t need the headache of stuff that could go wrong.

It seems like I probably could have gotten away with a tank of reg with a couple of bottles of Lucas octane booster, driving it gently, but I was asceerd. Here’s to hoping this doesn’t happen to our power grid.
