Hello all. I have a 2014 Touring model and would like to update the nav maps. When I check the Nissan site, under 2014 maps, it says the product doesn't exist. If I look at 2013 or 2015, it says the update is for 2010-2017 models. Has anyone updated their nav maps? Not sure which way to go on this one. Thanks.

I got a letter from Nissan, and a couple of emails, offering to sell me the updates at the low discounted price of $129! I emailed them back and basically told them to kiss my ***.
These isn't some low-end Kia or Hyundai. I paid for one of the most expensive vehicles on most Nissan lots. Why in the hell am I paying for map updates? 1. I got them for free from Ford when I had my F150, and MSRP for it was about the same as for my Nismo. 2. I have 2 programs on my phone that already have updated maps on them, and they are free. 3. The only driving I do in my Z is back and forth to work. Trips are made in the much roomier 2500HD Chevy pickup we use to haul our travel trailer. Bottom line? I see no reason to buy the updated nav maps from Nissan. It's ********. But that's just my opinion, and I could be wrong. Kirk B. |

And btw, the Z is not one of the most expensive vehicles of Nissan, nismo or not. I would say it’s the median.

I will however address the latter part. I would think that around about $25k would be median price for cars, across the board, not just Nissan. I will admit to having done no research to back this number up, and will accept that I could be off by a couple of grand either way. The Nismo Tech Z MSRP's for $45,000, and sells in the Mid to Upper 30's. It's not in Corvette range, but it isn't an Altima, either. Kirk B. |

As you have stated, the MSRP of a nismo tech Z is $45k. So then you can spend $45k on a car but gripe about spending $130 for a software update? Once again, what are you to do when it comes time to replace the tires or other mainentance that may cost more than $130? Will you be emailing Nissan “WHY????”? And you would be surprised as to how high Altima’s get in price, esp. when adding different options. Heck, a civic (albeit a type r) could be in the nismo tech Z range, if not more.

For me, i enjoy having the nav in the car and don't mind updating occasionally. Cost me the same to do my 2012 Acura TL and that was worth the $99 as well. I don't care to try to look at my phone and Waze, when I have tried, locks up regularly. As for buying the maps for another model, the maps are linked to your VIN number and can only be used on one vehicle. The pass code provided with the maps locks it to the specified vehicle update was purchased for. Don't trust someone on Ebay saying they have a map update that will work. Good luck! |

crazyforoldcars shares the same opinion I do.
I have 3 vehicles, all with nav systems that could use an update (2011 Lexus ES350, 2017 Subaru OutBack, 2016 370Z), but I'll be da**ed if I'll pay what those manufacturers want for the update. I have a Garmin for RVing that I use in my 2005 Sierra Dually for hauling our 5th wheel. It comes with FREE updates every year for as long as the Garmin has memory space to store them. The nav systems in the other cars get used locally when needed but very little. As with the 370z, the nav package is only there because I couldn't stand the look of the dash with the huge ugly center storage bin that is there if you don't go the nav route. In all cases, when I leave home for a trip out of my local area, the Garmin gets put on the dash, regardless of which car I'm driving, and the built in nav units don't get turned on. While the car is moving, my wife can even setup the Garmin from the passenger seat, fine tune its settings, and it gets dragged to Europe for car rental use there, just by purchasing a micro SD card update for the countries we'll be travelling in. No learning curve necessary, and we can even use it when walking through cities on tours. NightHawkII, Check the update code for the update you need, for you may find that Infinty and other car manufacturers use the same nav system. When you know the update number, you may well find what you need on eBay, but be careful to verify it will work for you, and that the seller has a good return policy if you have difficulties. |

Yep,
all MFG's that use a hard drive based GPS system charge for the updates, which are out of date by the time they are released. One reason I did not want the Nissan Navigation. ![]()

I second this. My gosh, people get butt hurt over Nissan sending them a letter to update the nav software for a small price? It’s $129! If this is going to break the bank, then you are in some serious trouble. What’s going to happen when you have to replace the tires, which will cost approx. 10 nav updates?? Nissan is a business, meaning they are there to make money. If you don’t agree with it, then simply don’t update!
Now go drive and have fun, and update your damn nav!

I'd:
1) contact NissanUSA with your question. Phone, e-mail, Facebook, etc. 2) find part numbers for the updates and see if they are the same for other Nissan/Infinity models (as per gbhrps). 3) buy another GPS unit that has cheaper/free updates (as others have mentioned).
