Default Stranded at Grandparents - 370z key light

Hey everyone. I have a 2010 370z base. The key light has come on and the car won't start. It looks like the steering lock issue. I had it towed to a local dealer (I'm on travel) and they said they need to replace the IPDM before they can start the car to diagnose it(but think it's the problem). What so u guys think? They want $1700 for parts and labor.

Default Stranded at Grandparents - 370z key light

How much is the part vs labor. IPDM looks like it sells for $200 and less on eBay and it also looks like it's just several harness type connectors.

There is a thread about this, but the bottom line is: Take a hammer, beat the steering lock like you own it until it works, start the car, pull the fuse and be done.

When my steering wheel lock stopped working I tried the "hammer" method with no success. I then unplugged it for about 10 seconds, plugged it back in and it retracted. I then pulled the fuse and have not had a problem with it since.

If it needs to be ordered, check bochnissanparts.com. Not sure of part number, but I believe it was only around $500 new oem. They probably quoted you MSRP price for it, and even if they did, it shouldn't cost $700-$800 for labor.

Make sure you get a breakdown of labor and parts. Hopefully it's just a fob battery like Z Runner said.

"Replace parts until it starts working" is a crappy troubleshooting method. If they can't tell if the IPDM is bad without pulling it, you need to find another shop.
