Salt here, only salt . And we really don't get tons of snow up here in Toronto, but a few inches of snow, salt on every damn road.

They sure make cars a lot better than they used to. I have an '02 Avalon that is still rust free and has been through 15 Chicago winters. My old American cars would have been rusted hulks years ago. I still have the original exhaust system on the Toyota...knock wood. Plus, I haven't been the best at getting the salt off right away either. I'm not too worried about the Z.

Had a '77 ferd f150 4x4, bought new. Both inner front fenders rusted out in 3 years. Had to fiberglass patch what was left of the inner fenders to pass state inspection. Ferd dealer didn't want to inspect it, even tho I bought it there.

That's funny. I had a F250 and the oil pan rusted out...go figure. Pretty bad when something is full of oil and still rusts. Where does Ford get it's metal? And that was a 2001 truck.

Hate salt !!!! And then they over use the sh*t out of it !!!

If you're old enough you'll remember it was Honda & Toyota (in the early seventies ) that forced the big three to get their quality problems ( and there were many ) straightened out ! Rust was a huge problem. 3yr. Old cars were rusting and falling apart in the driveway. Rust stains on the pavement.

I drove mine all year round in AB and SK, put on 400,000kms in 6 years, sold the car to a guy that drove it to NB.

I drove mine pretty much everyday, always put a smile on my face even after 2 week road trips. But I get what you are saying.

I lived in MI until I was 28. Worked at a gas station during high school in the mid 70s and would always laugh when a 2 year old Chevy Vega would pull in with holes so big you could put your fist through them.

Cars certainly have improved

First wife had a Vega. It was check the gas and fill the oil. And the tranny bolts to the motor would never stay tight. The threads was too big in the motor.

We got a coating of snow yesterday, and I must have counted 5 snow plows throwing salt on the roads every half hour.

LOL... That first summer when I worked at that gas station, there was a lady in a green Vega who would show up every day (seriously, EVERY day) with $1.50 in change and get the same thing each time.. A quart of oil, a gallon of gas and a pack of Marlboro Reds. Each of those were 50 cents right then. And she got one of each and every single day with her 6 quarters.

But an even more memorable part was that she must have been allergic to money because she always handed me her change with a rubber glove on.....

To this very day, I’m scared of anyone with a rubber glove on, because I know someone is going to get their oil checked...

My ex wife had a Vega when I first met her. It used oil so fast that her mechanic told her she never had to change it, just put a new filter on every once in a while. That was at the dealership!
