Still battling this damn suspension creaking, rattling and clunking in the rear. So today, we cut some 0.25" heavy industrial rubber pads and installed them on the spring perches. Took it out for a spin, and... STILL RATTLING AND CLUNKING!!! Dammit! The creaking is pretty much gone though, so not a total loss I guess.

And yes, just as twice before, we have checked, double checked and triple checked all suspension points in the rear. Everything is torqued to spec, and checked again.

The only other thing I can think of it being is the top hats of the rear BC BR shocks being shot or the shocks themselves being shot. But as far as operation goes, the shocks are working fine and respond well to stiffness adjustments.

All I know is that this damn continuing noise is really starting to piss me off.

On a slightly brighter note, since the rear wheels were already off the car, we pulled the fronts off as well, thoroughly cleaned and scrubbed the backsides of them as well as the faces of them, remounted them, dried them and the tires, and then applied a healthy dose of Meguiar's #40 vinyl/rubber cleaner and conditioner. Made the tires look brand new again. Not that nasty, ugly shiny crap.

Oh, and lastly, I bumped up the stiffness slightly on the shocks front and rear. The fronts are set to 25 to stiff, the rears are 21 to stiff. Before, all four were at 15 (out of a total of 31).

I certainly hope so. The car just turned over 16k miles and is only 2.5 years old. I mean, I drive my car hard, but I don't spin the tires or make them hop. I would think that sort of recklessness would cause that particular bushing to go this soon.

However, with all of that being said, I honestly never even looked up there at it to see. I'll go out take a quick peek under there in a few. If I see a bunch of black puke running down the differential housing, I'll know it's shot.

I think there is a thread in the Brakes and Suspension section on rear axle clunk and how to fix it. That may be your issue. Mine has been clunking for a while and I am sure that is what it has to be as I have changed out every bushing possible in the rear suspension and I am running on true type coilovers.

Just took another look under the car a bit ago and the diff cover is spotless, so I'm pretty sure the diff bushing isn't shot or leaking.

I don't think that is my issue here. It only started immediately after installing the coilovers. There were zero noise issues before pulling into the shop to install the coilovers, but the noise issue was definitely there right after getting the car off the lift after the install.

And even after I took the car to the alignment shop to have the alignment done, he inspected everything and double checked the torque on everything as well for me. He even pulled the rear shocks, adjusted them and reinstalled them. Even he couldn't figure out what was causing the noise.

With all of the high end Porsche's, Lambo's, etc, etc and race cars he works on, I highly trust him with my car, which is exactly why I drive the 100 miles or so to have him do my alignments. He knows his shizz.

Right on, not questioning your shop, just proving information. Stranger things have happened.

Did you set the preload via the shock length? Example: you jack up the car under the spring perch, it should compress only 1/2 in. or so before it lifts the car of the jack stand it was sitting on. You only do this for the rear.

Yup.

Really was not wanting to change my oil, but enjoyed it once I started. Kind of therapeutic. Plus I may have changed my oil 1k miles before my usual 5k. Oh well.

Been thinking I should buy a CJ Motorsports billet top hat for my fuel pump assembly since mine broke last year. Just bought a used CJM Road Race Pump kit from a fellow forum member instead.

abm89 12-17-2018 03:09 PM

I went to cars and coffee Sunday. Was the first time I drove the Z since buying a daily.

Also, Meguiars tire gel is very nice. Has the right amount of shine and my garage smells like berries.

I knew that one wouldn’t last long, congrats on the purchase.

I just had my 3rd fuel starve earlier today , but this time I had freaking half a tank!

Installed the K&N Air Filters. Honestly didn't expect anything, but after I installed them I definitely felt like the pick up on my car has improved. It felt like my car had a stuffy nose and now its all clear lol.

Changed fluids and put the car on storage insurance for the winter. Can't wait till I get it back on the road!

Engine oil: Mobil 1 0w40, Amsoil filter
Transmission: 2qt MT-85, 1qt Amsoil MTG
Diff: Severe gear 75W-90

Thank you!

Though it's not quite so perfect now. Pulling into my friend's narrow driveway along side his house, there's a small bush on the right side and my passenger side mirror dug right through it. So now it's got a couple of deep scratches though it as well as the black trim around it.

I didn't want to spend the money so soon, but now I need to look for some quality carbon fiber mirror caps/covers at a good price.

Ordered these last night from The Z Store...

I polished my Z today for the first time with the DA polisher that I bought myself as an early Christmas present.

Erojas26 12-24-2018 05:59 PM

Installed my Invidia Gemini CBE. Although I don't have much experience working on cars, I had no issues doing the install myself. It was pretty easy and straight forward. I absolutely love the tone!!!!

Got these in the mail yesterday... A day early! They will most likely find their way onto the car tomorrow.

Well that didn't happen. They're being sent back. The finish on them is sub-par to say the least.

Clumped up carbon fiber and milky spots...

I am disappointed if The Z Store sent you those. They should be buying in bulk to avoid and handle these inconsistencies from EVO-R. It’s one thing to get the clearance rack version of the product shipped from Taiwan (when purchased direct from EVO-R), but to get that from The Z Stores shelves stinks.

abm89 12-26-2018 11:29 AM

My evo-r carbon mirrors looked fine and has held up (F1 style mirrors). Maybe their quality went down or they have someone else working the carbon.

I picked up some mirror covers from EVO-R last year during a sale and I would say that I received an 8/10, if truly judging finish and quality. I have a few wavy fiber areas and had some seethrough pinholes. I chalked it up to being the TJ Maxx/Ross castoffs at a cheaper price.

I have not seen how the Nismo, Seibon, Fujimara finishes looks for comparison, however keep in mind the size of the companies and the price point. In MOST instances, you get what you pay for.

It is unacceptable to send the above product out to a customer.

ChopsZ 12-26-2018 08:15 PM

To say that I am disappointed is an understatement. What I think I'm going to do is just get my money back from these, save up a few bucks and order the ones I really want which you almost never see anywhere... Impul.

No, I don't think these aren't EVO-R carbon fibre covers. I ordered the exact same ones from the Z store. I don't know the manufacturer company name, but it believe it's one of their exclusive Z motorsport suppliers - they were out of stock at the time and I had to wait a month for them to be made and shipped.

That's unfortunate yours came like that. Mine were nowhere near as bad as yours. My weave was pretty good, though I had some scuffs and imperfections in the clear coat. Decided it wasn't worth the hassle to return and reship a new one, so I installed it; it was acceptable enough to me. However, I'm not sure if I didn't install them correctly, or the shape of the cover wasn't a 100% perfect, because mine didn't fit properly. There's slight gaps around the edges. I'm just gonna leave it for now and may get around to try and re-install after winter.

They do look quite nice on the car though

Yeah, I'm not going to screw around with them, and right now, the Z store is pissing me off because they're not replying to my emails. I sent two now and nothing.

I'm sure as heck NOT going to settle and put these things on my car. No thank you.
