Nice, they give it that exotic sound I really like.

Which exhaust did you have, Rev9 or another? Surprised yours was so different. This one has an h-pipe while some of the others are x-pipe, but mostly the same.

ColtronZ 08-08-2018 01:45 PM

Should be the same exact one you have.

Weird. Mines pretty throaty at higher rpms. Guess that's what you get for $350, a mystery :icon17:

The main issue I have with it is the fitment. It's good, but I'm a stickler and the tips being a little off will drive me crazy. One is a hair lower, and they're both centered but more towards the inside of the cutouts.

May pay the shop to cut and weld to get it perfect, but I still may opt for a more what-it-should-have-been-from-the-factory sounding Borla or something.

Just so other people know. :tiphat:

How would you compare this to the Fast Intentions? Louder, quieter? More boomy? tia

ChopsZ 08-08-2018 09:47 PM

Had my Z up on the rack today installing the BC BR coilovers. Pretty easy, straight forward install, though it took us about 7 hours because we were just talking for the first hour and last hour, going at our leisure during, as well as a nice hour lunch break.

At any rate, I lifted the car up some and set the rebound to the 20th click towards full "Stiff".

A few pics of the new ride height...

The real question is, how fast does that yellow van go?

Louder, smoother, and more aggressive. My gf said the Rev9 didn't sound "natural" (she's not a car person). There was times where I dropped to a lower gear and the drone was deafening like a tin can and she would ask me to shift whereas with FI I drop it and she grabs the door handle :driving:

Hey, don't knock the van. That's my buddy's ride. It's got a cam'ed EFI 305 with some head work, short headers and a full custom dual exhaust. It has a 4-speed auto with overdrive and it will certainly scoot. There's not much weight there to move. And the shifter comes through the floor, so it looks like a Hurts 5-speed!

And yes, he as an LS motor with 6-speed manual ready to go in it.

I was genuinely curious what power plant it had in it based on the stance and tires. Looks like fun.

Thanks. I don't get that drone, but I do think a lazy downshift from 3 to 2 sounds pretty sloppy. Like it's too much exhaust for the engine. You get a resonated one?

Non-res bought it used, my test pipes are going to be resonated though.

I know, I know. I was just saying. It's an '87, and used to live its life as a Coca-Cola delivery van.

And I just realized I said "Hurts" shifter instead of Hurst. LOL

He's surprised quite a few un-expecting cars on the road with that thing. And man that exhaust, it sounds REALLY good.

Got the 275’s installed up front on the sport rims and my Corbeau bucket arrived today so just finished that install. Now it’s time tohead out and test them both!

hustleman222 08-12-2018 12:26 AM

Installed the Stance XR1 coilovers with Voodoo13 rear camber and toe arms. Dropped it 7/8" in the front and 1/2" in the rear. Got an alignment and ready for a ¼ mile pass soon. I only dropped it ½" in the rear because my radials still need to fit without rubbing

Made some mad rooster-tails on the highway since it finally rained.

CRiZO 08-12-2018 08:49 AM

Rev9 exhaust is more broken in now. I love and hate it lol. It's developed drone at 2k rpms, but sounds pretty great when getting on it. I'll probably get it lined up so it looks good, and play racecar for a month or so before installing a Borla or FI (leaning towards Borla, I like OEM+). It also started to tint gold pretty quickly haha. I'll write up a thing for others considering it. Honestly, I'd probably have loved it in my 20s.

Another thought, I bet Nissan installed a quiet exhaust on the Z (in comparison to the G) because through the hatch you can hear the exhaust way more.

Jayhovah 08-12-2018 12:49 PM

Finished installing some catch cans... and replaced my IC inlet pipe which I had welded last week.

edit: Yes, I know my engine compartment is filthy.

Looks good! I need to take mine off and paint them. The plasti dip was temporary and starting to peel in places. Is the handle removal easy?

Mrmancans09z 08-12-2018 05:11 PM

Steady hand, Rust-Oleum of choice prime and paint. Maybe a clear to keep

Scheduled my tune locally with a gentleman named Martin who I have heard great things about. Excited to see her strapped to the dyno and to see what she can make at the wheels. Not really sure what to expect from the tune.
