I kicked the ole' girl a little sideways on the way home from work tonight. Not too bad for an open diff considering it was a hard right-hand turn.:driving:

Got a replacement battery under warranty and cranked the Z for the first time in 6 months.

Went by auto zone and had battery tested. Initially showed 12 volts and good. Tech said to let car cool down and see if battery drops charge after 30 mins sitting. Left the car there, got dinner and had it retested about 40 mins later. Tech said battery still showing 12 volts, good condition 82%. Recommended clean poles and cable and should be good to go. Got brushes and cleaned them once i got home. Car started right away. Does anyone know about optima batteries? He said they are good performance batteries and auto zone sells them.

Optima quality has decreased significantly in recent years. Don't bother.

My last battery and the only other battery that has been in the car is a Auto Zone dry cell with a 3 year warranty.

The stock batteries will last a long time as long as you keep a check on the water/acid level. Let that get too low and the battery is done. With our under hood temps in the summer I check mine every oil change. Just like I would a customer car. Done it for years.

Great info on batteries guys. That optima battery is very expensive if you look it up, anywhere from $199 to over $250. Should i ever need to replace it, it will be with an interstate battery. NTB on 1431 and 183 has it in stock for $134.00

Got my test pipes installed after 5 months! :D

Question is, I have a 7AT with FI TP and CBE and the sound flip flops. What I mean is that below 2400 rpm its the CBE above that it's the test pipes. Is there a way to smooth the sound so it's not so back and forth, just seems to be how the car handles shifting? Would a tune fix this?

I had an Optima Red Top in my 2012 and didn't have any issues, but I put it on a tender overnight after I first installed it. If you buy an Optima (or any battery for that matter) put it on a tender overnight to bring it to full charge. The Optima batteries sit on the shelf for a long time because of cost. Most of the wet batteries rotate out over time, so most of those have been in the store about 6 months. Advance will sell a battery that has never been installed, but is over a year old as a 'used' battery ($50). However, it will only have a 90 day warranty. Check the date code on the battery to determine ship month. Advance/CarQuest batteries have a square white sticker with battery size and month/year shipped on one end. If the battery you pick is almost a year old by ship date, just ask if they will sell as a used battery because of age.

I gave my Z some upgrades today...

Akebono calipers, slotted rotors, StopTech pads and some Motul DOT 5.1.

Any particular reason there were two difference colors available for the Z from the factory? Was it just a year/generation thing? Because I have seen them on both Sport and Nismo Z's.

Frankly, I prefer the grey (obviously, since that's what I ordered - LOL). Reasons being is because everywhere you look, everyone these days use red calipers. Secondly, I like all of my mods on this car to be low key, and these grey calipers are just an addition to that theme.

Not to mention the only other colors on this car (other than black/grey) are the amber front turn signals and the red taillights. I certainly didn't want big ugly chunks of red in my wheels.
