I replaced the resonators that come on the Gemini y pipes. They were rattling and all warped on the inner perforated core.

Currently in the process of clamping on Vibrant bottle resonators to further tame the exhaust. They’re going on the Gemini mid pipes where there is the long straight sections of pipe

Gotcha, are the Gemini resonators not available?

I wonder if anyone has messed around with megaphones on the VQ. I saw this video and I can't help but be curious:

Looks like the OP in this thread notes Megaphone usage on line 5 of post #1.
http://www.the370z.com/parts-sale-pr...5-exhaust.html There's parts lists and videos down page. You have to thumb through the first video's at the top right of the player to get to the ones with the exhaust. Way too high pitched for me.

Other than that I found Apex'i uses a megaphone inside some of their mufflers and ISR uses megaphones in their Y-pipes when using a search engine entry of "370z megaphone exhaust".

The video noted a megaphone typically produces a higher pitch exhaust note, not something I'd personally want with the VQ's engine exhaust characteristics as demonstrated by the forum video's I linked above.

I finally got around to installing brake cooling ducts. I was pondering a super detailed job, but in the end I settled with a pretty simple solution. I just routed two pipes (not too large, around 2,5" diameter) right next to the splash tray and over the sway bar towards the middle of the wheel. It's not super accurate and it's probably not as efficient as it could be, but I'm sure it will be better than stock.
I also cut the entrance of the tubes with a long V on the bottom side, so it's a wider entrance area but also so that rocks and trash wouldn't get scooped up that easily. It's not much, but for now it will be enough.

They were going to sell me new Y pipes for $400 + international shipping. Not the resonators on their own. It was cheaper and much faster to have aftermarket resonators welded in.

HOWEVER, the resonators I chose were slightly different in size, and this caused some drone, unfortunately.

First drive tonight with the new Vibrant bottle resonators and the sound is tamer. No drone at all. I like it a lot. Even though the Gemini is “quiet”, it’s still a loud car since I have non-res test pipes, so I’m happy to add these resonators and make the car a bit more drivable. There’s an annoying rattle at WOT because my W brace is off and the heat shield isn’t fully fastened. Once that is back on, I’ll get a better sense of the sound at WOT

Glad it worked out and at a lesser cost than replacing with same branded units!

Wow just going back to fresh oe would probably be a big difference with that mileage. I bet it's back to driving like a dream!

Other than the items listed above are all of your rubber suspension bits still OE and in good condition?

Those are OE still and not in the best shape. That’s also part of the soon-to-be plans. Fresh bushings, aftermarket LSD, subframe collars. Our fantastic economy has slowed down some of my progress.

In my experience subframe collars are a great upgrade and a much easier install than replacing the entire bushing. So far the only bushing's (other than rear end) I've replaced on my '10 with 101k are the front upper a-arms as my camber was beginning to get out of range.

The replacement headlight came in early last week and it is definitely much better. There's a sharp cutoff on the low beam with a decent spread of light. (Pics to come later)

I did however get some sound clips of the car:

picked up a set of tires for autocross and lapping days: Nankang Sportnex CR-S
275/35R18 front and 295/35R18 rear . Replacing old R888 that were mostly for lapping.

I've heard Nankang has a good line of track tires. I've seen them on GT Porsches at the shop frequent.

In street tire class, Grassroots Motorsports has rated them up there along with Bridgestone RE-71RS For endurance and speed. Everyone I know that use them only have good things to say

abm89 06-10-2024 06:20 PM

That's extremely high praise! Bridgestone is excellent for track performance. All of that R&D from SuperGT is filtering down.
