If your charging system is in good shape, there will be some charging going on at idle.

The whole engine, including the oil, heats up and will eventually get to operating temp.

Not if your engine is tuned properly. CO emissions are very low and drop to next-to-nothing once the cats warm up. I still wouldn't advise idling in a closed garage but it's not the big problem it was back in The Good Old Days.

It is unnecessary and bad for the car to idle. I start up my car and within 15-20 seconds start to drive. Just don't stomp on the gas, feather it till the oil temp starts to build up.

Pulled car out of garage so fumes are not an issue. Started car cause it was cold here and car is stored there. Started car and let it warm up to operating temps waiting on my battery tender to get here.

No worse than driving it. It just won't warm up quite as fast.

Screw the car....I let mine warm up for my own comfort. Actually I only do that when it is really cold outside. I know it doesn't help the car one bit.

"The study found that if people would just knock off unnecessary idling of this sort, then consumers as a whole would save $5.9 billion per year on fuel costs (based on the cost of fuel in 2008). The saved emissions, the study noted, would be "larger than the emissions from the soda ash, aluminum and limestone industries combined."

Course, if you don't care...

it is more worse to cold idle, the oil doesnt get hot enough and is getting contaminated and the car is running rich fuel mixture because it is cold which is contaminating the oil and washing the cilinder walls so the cold oil is not even protecting what it can and then when it trys it gets washed away by the extra fuel, its ok to do it if it makes you happy and you warm to blow the hot air heater on you to make you warm but its not good for the engine, this is fact and cannot be debated

As I'm sitting here laughing at some of the tripe said in this thread as if it's fact, I'm still wondering why the car shut off and locked the doors automatically. Not one person has questioned that yet.

Having one or both fobs in the car while it's idling does not make the car shut off. It doesn't make the doors lock on their own.

Also, even IF that actually happened, why in hell would you have to call AAA to come open the car? Both keys are supposedly in the car. Just hit the button on the car door to unlock...

So no matter what people are discussing in this thread, I'm either calling BS on the OP or calling the OP a troll. Either way, the OP isn't telling us the whole story, or he's just telling us a "story".

ChopsZ just got in before me & I was wondering the same things. For one why in the hell would you have both keys in the car at the same time? BS

This is NOT a fact and can most definitely be debated.

I don't know where you're getting your information from, but you need to stop posting until you get the right information.

If the average clown was to read your post, they would assume:
  • The engine floods with fuel at idle
  • The oil pump doesn't work at all at idle
  • The engine never reaches full operating temp at idle
  • The oil gets contaminated with fuel at idle
  • Everything you say is "FACT" so it HAS to be true

And again, "more worse"? Really?!

Wow...
