Just my opinion, but if there are questions that one is needed by some significant % of the people that buy the car (and there is apparently) then it should be either standard to err on the side of safety and lessening warranty issues coming up.... or in a 'track pkg' that can be purchased and dealer installed. That way everyone is happy. IOW, not everyone is happy running an engine on the bleeding edge of acceptable temperature ranges, just because the engineers say it's possible and the engine will last (at least until the warranty runs out).

Alternative question. If the Z was a plane, would you be satisfied with the oil temp performance/lack of oil cooler as evidenced by multiple peoples reports on this forum? In that case - your life could depend on it - in the car case, it's potentially (only) your pocketbook.

2)………no……………street driving = no oil cooler

I bet Nissan is thinking about removing the oil temperature gauge in future Z’s

1. Yeah, but you're tracking the car. Its been made very clear that if you intend to track the car, an oil cooler is going to be needed.

2. No, not even close

If the Z was a plane, you'd have to fly within the FAA regulated speed limits. The oil temp would be a non issue.

Reminds me of the first year current generation Xterra we bought my wife a few years ago. The oil pressure gauge on that car was legit - went up and down a lot. Freaked people out that didn't understand that oil pressure varies quite a bit in normal operation. Forums were full of "is this normal" questions and a lot of buyers thinking their car had a problem.

The following year we bought me a Frontier (same drivetrain) and the oil pressure gauge was dumbed down. Stayed right in the middle and never moved. Nissan had responded to customer concern by adjusting the gauge to read in the middle of it's dial over a wide pressure range, only rising or falling with dramatic increases or decreases in pressure. Calls to Nissan Consumer Affairs and forum activity on the subject fell dramatically. Problem solved.

Hopefully the Z doesn't share a similar fate. I like gauges, especially ones that give accurate data.

Oh yeah, +1 on the Scangauge. Wouldn't be without one now that I'm used to having it.

And +1 on Modshack's bracket. I got one and it works great!

I think I read somewhere this is also the reason why many OEM tire pressure gauges don't give the actual numerical pressure anymore, too many stupid people freaked out and thought something was wrong when the pressure went up during the first few minutes after driving.

FAA only has speed limits below 10000 feet.
