Default fuel gauge

not sure if this is the right place to post this question sorry if it isn't. the other day on my way home from work the fuel gauge was reading empty when it had at least a third of a tank. the distance to empty was going super fast crap mileage I suppose. it was pushing 100 degrees for outside temp. not sure if it was the hot temps or something else I need to look at. has anyone else experienced this or have any ideas as to what happened? seems fine today but it is a lot cooler. thank you in advance

Wink

Did you fill it up again? There have been some on here that had fuel gauge problems. Gauge reading empty when there is fuel in the tank. The Z has 2 fuel level sensors. One of them goings bad. Have to figure out which one.

be on the safe side by resetting the trip meter after fill and keep an eye on the amount of miles traveled. fill by the 300 mile mark i guess.

Something similar happens with mine and I think it is to do with the fuel in the lines? Like if I have 1/4 tank left and I park the car then come back and turn it on again. There's times when doing that causes my gauge to read only one unit instead of the previous 1/4 tank. So my theory is also that the computer figures your rate of acceleration vs how much fuel you have and it displays a reading. Usually after I slow don or drive slow I actually start to get units back.

I've had the gauge read 3/8ths of a tank then die to 1/8 and come back up to 1/4 after driving slow.

When your tank is low, which is at 1/4, go fill up. These gas tanks are a little weird/faulty along with the fuel pump.

Talking

Someone said on here awhile back, that the computer bases fuel mileage on injector dwell time. If I remember right.

In a round about way. Fuel flow is based on injector dwell time, and then that is used to compute MPG.
