funny you mention that i was just about to post a threat about a problem im having similiar to yours but also different. my car has about 1700 miles and the other day i was stopped at a red light and the car wouldnt go into first gear. and I've been driving only manual cars for over 4 years never had a problem like this. I pressed the clutch as far as it would go and i wasnt able to put it into 1st. i was standing at a green light for literally 20 seconds because it wouldnt go into first. i thought nothing of it when something similar had happened. when i tried shifting into 5th gear it wouldnt budge again

If it felt like a brick wall trying shift into first (no grind) then this just means that you had the clutch held in for too long before trying to put it into gear. If you hold the clutch in the input shaft stops spinning which can make it difficult to select a gear. Typically all you have to do is take your foot off the clutch and leave the transmission in N and but you foot back on the clutch again and it should engage no problem. If it was grinding then definitely get that checked out.
