Default Adding oil to new Z?

I bought a new Z in September and it has 2600 miles on it. I had to add a half quart of oil today. Oil level was almost at bottom indicator hole on dipstick. It was in the middle the last time I checked a couple weeks ago. Is this normal for a new engine? Thanks for your help.

The rings need to seat. Since you are so close to 3000 miles on a new engine I would go ahead and change the oil. Hope you followed the break in procedure.

Took my Z about 15k miles to stop burning oil completely..

I was adding about 1/2 quart early on between my annual oil changes
Was the same way on my G.

Thanks everyone for the responses.

I did follow the break in instructions and keep the RPMs below 3000 until the oil comes to proper temperature. I still baby it, I guess, most of the time. I am usually driving around at 2500 to 3000 RPM most of the time with some bursts to around 5000 RPM. I don't sprint away from a stop. Just curious why I should change oil now plus at 5000 miles? My local dealer uses Mobile 1 which I will change over to at the first oil change. Is this a good oil to use or is something else better? Thanks

You really don't need to. Many say this mainly for prevention but your car will absolutely be fine without a break in oil change. You had to ask what oil.

Welcome to the forum and enjoy your Z.

As mentioned, modern engines don't follow this same need quite like older vehicles. But the idea is that the break in period will be the period during which the most contaminants (mostly metal) are deposited into the oil because the engine parts are still wearing in. Ideally, you change the oil immediately after the break-in period to remove all these metal contaminants.

Lots of people like to do 3500 mile oil changes, so if you do the first change before 1500 miles, the next change should be around 5000 miles. I typically go with a 5K mile interval or shorter depending on how hard I drove the car during that period. My manual says 7500 miles for a normal interval.

I have the same issue with my new Z,at 7000k it's getting better.Went through almost a full quart at the 5000k mark when I got my first oil change.Since then I have put 2000k on it and the dipstick is down about 1/16 of an inch,so it appears to be getting better. At this stage don't panic, don't run the car hard when the motor is cold, that can really burn oil through the rings.

That oil is fine. The biggest mistakes are made by not changing the oil on time/mileage and not checking the oil level regularly.
