I have the dreaded rear hatch rattle and it is driving me absolutely crazy! The car now has 4800KM and that is the only thing that annoys me about it. I have tried fixing it by lowering the lock assembly as far as it will go and I still get a clicking noise if I push down on the hatch. It's as if there is an inherent looseness in the whole lock assembly. I have also added rubber foam inserts to the two indentations where the rubber hatch bumpers sit. No difference.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I do not want to take it to the dealer for this. I'm just afraid they will take the whole car apart and not really fix anything. Thanks.

PS: I don't understand why after 7 years of production, Nissan could not fix a simple issue such as this.

You could try adding a few strips of foam weatherstrip inside (inboard) of the factory weatherstrip in such a way that it won't block any drainage, etc. but will provide additional stiffness to the hatch position.

Mine only rattles on big bumps. I don't like it, but I just remember that the car is sprung stiff as hell and I'm glad it only does it occasionally.

Yeah I thought about doing that. I might look into it this weekend. I may try to readjust the lock mechanism again before I go the foam weatherstrip route. Thanks for the suggestion.

I have to pop my hatch twice to get it to open. First time it just loosens up a bit and the second, it actually raises up enough to clear the latch, and mine *still* rattles a bit on big bumps.

Damn! I guess I won't bother with readjusting the lock mechanism then. Thanks for the info.

On the hatch, there is 2 black spring cans. One on each side. You can remove them by twisting them counter clock wise. Take them apart, and add a 1/8" washer to the spring. Reinstall to the hatch. This should work with popping the hatch open. If not, you may have to use a thicker washer.

Same issue here. Have you tried taking it to the dealership?
My seat also creeks & moves slightly at times.

I noticed while washing my Z a few weeks ago I could grab the lower edge of the bumper and flex it around a bit. I know the bumper is just a piece of plastic and is not firmly attached everywhere but it seems to move a little more than I would expect.

It looks fine and there is no damage so I'm thinking it's normal but I don't remember whether it was like that when I first brought it home or not...
I have a 16 that is about 2 months old, and I have noticed several "loose" fitting body parts. Wheel wells, bumpers, etc. I also have the "squeaky" rear bumper that Uxi posted about.

I have a '16 AT with 9K miles. The only rattle I have is the simple armrest release button. The dealership says there is no fix and another replacement would just do the same. Not a big deal. As for the hatch not opening (without 2 button presses) you'll have to deal with it. I've added 2 nickels to each spring-boot and that worked for a week. I then removed the nickels and glued a rubber washer to the frame to build up the little springs at contact (another member said it worked for him). It worked for 2 days. I've also removed the 5 lb weight in the hatch (under plastic cover). In the end, there really is no fix from Nissan. This has been an issue since the 2009 model. I have a feeling the trunk roll-cover may play a role in keeping the hatch down. I've made my piece with it. Overall I'm happy with the lack of rattles/issues.

How did the dealership fix the squeaking rear bumper? My dealership said there was nothing they could do.

Had the same issue with my shifter at high RPM. So annoying. Took it to the dealership. Lucky for me the Nissan Tech also owns a Nismo 370z. Turns out it was a spring inside the shifter and it wasn't completely tight. Took apart the shifter and boot, tightened it, done! No rattle!

On my car i thought i had a hatch rattle too, i spent a ton of time trying fix it but nothing would work, then finally i figured out that it was the GPS wires that were buzzing and sound was traveling back and bouncing, once you get it to buzz, press on the headliner bump where the antena is and see if it stops.
