Very similar to my thoughts after I finished Dance with Dragons however long ago that was.

I'm interested to see the split now since the show has caught up. I can't imagine GRRM pushing out the next book just to keep HBO on schedule. More likely HBO will continue to take creative liberties as they have already done. It is possible they will consult with GRRM for his thoughts before the show scripts are written, but I'm not sure how likely that is.

They've already surpassed the books. If anything, they're moving a lot faster than the books. If you've been watching or reading the whole story so far.... GoT has never been about quick resolutions. Though the subject matter is clearly fantasy, it's pace is closer to reality and having the good guys resolve everything in one episode would be kind of boring. The only thing slow is GRRM's book releases. Its been an excruciatingly long wait between books and there's no doubt now that the series will surpass the books. It's been 4 years since "A Dance with Dragons" for crying out loud....20 years since the "A Game of Thrones." GRRM is still not done with "Winds of Winter" and there's no way he'll finish and release the last book before season 7 concludes.

They've surpassed the books yes, catching up ( or surpassing) dany,stannis and jon's stories as they are in the books, however I feel like next season will still be revisiting some parts of the books that they have not yet touched on , like Jaime in the riverlands, the emergence of Euron and the greyjoy brothers, and dorne's intentions being revealed, possibly introducing (revealing) a certain someone.

and i agree.. the wait is excruciating, not sure if i buy 7 seasons, just don't see it happening in only 7 yet

so, my wife and I each saw the scene differently. Did Reek and Sansa plunge to their deaths, or plunge to the snow to escape?

Yeah to me it looked like they intended to jump to safety, not to die. Though that was a long way down!

In the show version, it seems to me that Sansa and Theon are making the decision to escape, or die trying. They really have little choice at this point as Ramsey may not be pleased.

The show creators have already went on record that they have had discussions with GRRM and know where they are going with the story and what the end will be. They only received his permission to do the show because they guessed who is Jon Snow's mother correctly.

Not to be condescending, but what do you expect them to say? Its been stated from credible sources on reddit etc that he's signed through season 7. Someone like Ned Stark, who was killed off, was not extended beyond season 1. If his character were to return in some fashion, its per diem contracted appearance - not as a part of the contract for the primary cast, which typically also includes press requirements etc.

You never know, he could be out for a season like Brann was this season, then return the following season. Who knows, right?

Yup, to escape. The same snow storm that stopped Stannis' army likely provided enough snow drifts to cushion their fall. If they wanted to kill themselves, they would have jumped of to the side where Theon pushed that other girl. They'll no doubt end up on the wall. Sansa knows Jon is there.
