Nope.......just wrapped the empty plugs in plastic to prevent water getting in. I also bought gutter leaf guard at the big box store, (it's steel dipped in plastic, still looks good after years) to dress the empty holes. ( Cut to shape, and Installed from behind the facia with JB Weld. )

If yoy warm it up, just let it run for 5-10m. You're essentially just warming it up enough to expel or evaporate any water that may have accumulated. Personally, I wouldn't even both with startups....
