As others have said if you had a failing CV joint or bearing you'd be hearing grinding/rumbling/popping when you put load on the drive train. And there would likely be a greasy mess somewhere, but...

Well a non aspirated 911 is not too bad IF you get a good one. But a turbo is totally different. The motor and chassis is great, but the cooling system seems to be a weak link and expensive to fix....

Yes inspect the shafts that go from the rear differential (the pumpkin in the center of the rear) to both wheels. You will find the rubber boots covering the CV joints there. Inspect them for any wet...

Ball out of a muffler bearing? Looking at the size of the ball. Best guess is either cv joint or it's not part of the car.
