Someone posted a picture of a setup with defi temp boost and pressure and the AFR gauge right in the corner of the windshield near the A pillar but not on it and now I can't find the picture.

theDreamer 07-15-2013 02:49 PM

Like they were just suction cupped to the A pillar?

dmhenderson 07-15-2013 02:55 PM

No this looked very clean. Argh I wish I could find the picture.

theDreamer 07-15-2013 03:03 PM

I have found Baer's version: http://www.the370z.com/exterior-inte...auge-pods.html
Dembfly: http://www.the370z.com/exterior-inte...ml#post1506684
Galeforce: http://www.the370z.com/exterior-inte...-pictures.html

Still digging but this is what I have found so far.

Chuck33079 07-15-2013 03:29 PM

Unless Baer made more of those, that pillar is in my garage waiting for me to get off my lazy *** and install it. OP is trying to stay away from a pillar mount, though. I'm partial to a pillar mount just so boost and AFR are in my line of sight, but some people want an OEM appearance.

dmhenderson 07-16-2013 10:17 PM

So I'm gonna go with boost, AFR and oil pressure for now with the option to re-add oil temp later on once I figure out where I want to mount the 4th gauge.

GTM received everything back from the powder coater today and as I type this, my supercharger is somewhere in the air on its way to Maryland.
Edit: And I sprung for the vented fender liners because I'm not upgrading the radiator just yet.

theDreamer 07-17-2013 07:07 AM

Should bug Uprev again and see if they can get access to the computer that runs the screen on the left of the rpm/speed/etc gauge cluster. Get it to tap into the car and just output oil temp or other things the ECU reads from factory, would be really nice.

dmhenderson 07-19-2013 12:43 PM

Laffo. GMT screwed up and shipped me a twin (!!!) supercharger instead of the one I ordered. No, I don't get to keep it.

Hopefully won't disrupt my timeline.

Gauges arrived today. Pictures forthcoming.

Chuck33079 07-19-2013 01:13 PM

That's a pretty big "whoops" considering how much more the twin kit costs over the single.

dmhenderson 07-19-2013 01:31 PM

Sam said Fedex grabbed the wrong box. He called me kinda panicky and said they were trying to re-route it but that the shop should refuse it if it's accidentally delivered.

At first I said, "Gee I dunno Sam, I think I might keep it"

EDIT FOR CLARITY: I am not considering keeping the kit. That would be douchebaggy and as much as I'd like to, I don't think I could live with myself. It'd be stealing.

I couldn't be that much of a ****. Plus that kit probably belongs to someone here on the forums.

As much fun as it is to think about, I couldn't ever actually do it.

dmhenderson 07-19-2013 02:06 PM

Turns out what they shipped me was (to quote Sam), "An overdrive twincharger for a G-37 in Canada". Unfortunately, they didn't ship my SC until a day later so they may screw up my install timeline now which makes me unhappy.

are you surprised? lol

dmhenderson 07-19-2013 02:59 PM

Yeah but it's GTM so I'm not holding my breath for freebies

Day 0:

Dropped off the car at Moore Automotive in Fairfax. We took the headlights with us to make a few tweaks while the car is under the knife:

Eighties Meta 07-21-2013 11:14 PM

Will you be doing any track days now after its sc?

Sent from my GT-N8013 using Tapatalk 2

dmhenderson 07-21-2013 11:53 PM

Well the SC install is "now" so anything I do will be after this. I will very likely do some drag strip stuff at 75-80 but I dunno how much I want to push the car on a track-track like Summit until I get a feel for how the motor is doing.

dmhenderson 07-22-2013 04:53 PM

GTM was not able to expedite the shipping so the kit won't arrive until tomorrow essentially costing me 2 days against my timeline. Not even an apology from them and the only phone call they ever made to me after they got my money was when they accidentally shipped me that twincharger and wanted to make sure they got it back (which I did because I'm nice like that).

Hopefully this product lives up to the hype because it was a pretty negative buying experience.

Anyway, the kit should arrive some time tomorrow and we can get started.

Chuck33079 07-22-2013 04:57 PM

I wouldn't have your timeline too set in stone for something like this. Builds always take longer than expected.

It's not that it took longer, I worked my install date around GTM's build schedule and didn't firm it up until I was given a definite delivery date and confirmed it with Sam at GTM.

Then they messed up and shipped me the wrong kit realized their mistake the next day and didn't upgrade shipping on my kit to get it there in time.

That's the bit I'm unhappy about. I know build times on projects like these are hard to control but in this case, getting the kit there on time was completely within GTM's purview and I simply wasn't an important enough customer to make it a priority (a date which I confirmed on 3 separate occasions leading up to finalizing the shop time).

Not the end of the world or anything, just frustrating.

dmhenderson 07-22-2013 05:03 PM

I mean not asking for the world here. I did go out of my way to make sure the twincharger was returned to them unopened. Could have thrown me a bone or something. I dunno.

Also SS Firehawk it wasn't your twincharger. It was a G-37 twincharger that was supposed to go to canada.

Oh and they lied to me and told me it was FedEx's fault and they "took the wrong box" which is odd considering GTM would have had to put shipping labels on the box.

Chuck33079 07-22-2013 05:26 PM

I completely understand your frustrations. They definitely could have handled it better. I get the feeling that GTM is run by a bunch of guys who know their cars, build great stuff, and just have issues with the business/customer relations side of things. You'll get your kit, it'll be exactly what you wanted and once it's installed, all this will be water under the bridge.

I occurs to me now that one of the pieces of advice I should have given you regarding a build like this is not to drop the car off at the shop until every part is in your possession. My build took much longer than expected since the FI 3" exhausts took a while to get out the door, so I know where you're at right now. It sucks, but the end product makes it worth it.

dmhenderson 07-22-2013 05:57 PM

Mostly I'm just fidgety.

dmhenderson 07-22-2013 05:59 PM

I'm a little concerned with my exhaust setup. Thankfully, I didn't go with LTHs or test pipes so the exhaust isn't super free-flowing but I do have a FI TDX and HFCs on it.

SS_Firehawk 07-22-2013 06:02 PM

HFC's on the FI exhaust or the normal location?

dmhenderson 07-22-2013 06:09 PM

Fast intentions HFCs replacing stock cats. I'm not sure I understand your question.

SS_Firehawk 07-22-2013 06:13 PM

They have an option to build in mini cats in their exhaust. Was just wondering. Because if I need to replace my own exhaust due to restriction issues, I was looking at that as an available option (I like having cats)

This is what I'm counting on. Sam really does know his sh*t and was patient with my million questions during the buying process. Their follow-up/customer relations are poor once you pull the trigger but it can't be easy running a shop AND a mail order kit business. They should hire more dudes.

I think the thing with forced induction builds is that an exhaust that's TOO free-flowing won't be able to make boost. I'm hoping the FI exhaust and HFCs are restrictive enough.

Well, build enough boost to stay in it's efficiency range. I'm worried about my midpipe being too restrictive. Instead of 3", it's 2.75". Keeping my eye on my top end results.

dmhenderson 07-23-2013 12:06 PM

Aaaand we have delivery confirmation (hooray)

Chuck33079 07-23-2013 12:08 PM

Now the waiting game gets even more painful.

dmhenderson 07-23-2013 12:20 PM

Anxiously awaiting pictures of the unboxing/taking inventory.

dmhenderson 07-23-2013 12:21 PM

I wonder how much louder the car is going to be. I know superchargers are "quiet" for the most part. With the deletion of the stillen open-ended CAI, makes me curious how it's going to sound.

theDreamer 07-23-2013 12:25 PM

I will say you won't 'hear' the intake sound anymore, you will get the SC noise.
At idle or cruising I never really hear the SC, going into boost or quick acceleration you get some SC whine (which is normal). When letting off you can hear the SC spin down but with music I do not hear it.

dmhenderson 07-23-2013 12:31 PM

I will likely be driving around with the music off for a while just to listen to that hiss.

theDreamer 07-23-2013 12:32 PM

Oh and yes, the bypass valve noise is very lovely.

dmhenderson 07-23-2013 12:41 PM

I literally have a list of friends who want to take it for a spin once this is done. Can't freaking wait.

dmhenderson 07-23-2013 02:41 PM

And away we go...
