Quick update but not much new to report:
-Headers have been titanium wrapped.
-Gauges installed
-ECU serial given to GTM for custom tune

Still waiting on the damn part from Nissan. Shop has promised me a few more pictures this afternoon.

vividracing 08-01-2013 04:07 PM

Great to see this coming along! Excited to see power numbers after its all together

dmhenderson 08-02-2013 09:19 AM

I really hate these non-updates but I spoke to the shop and the bracket/bolt is supposed to be delivered this morning. They are estimating monday/tuesday for completion.

A couple people from my car club are actually going to dyno/tune their cars there this weekend so I'm sure they'll get to see the progress firsthand which is kinda neat.

what? no dyno invite for me? lol

dmhenderson 08-02-2013 09:33 AM

Dana and Jay have the appointment so I'm sure you could head down there with them if you wanted.

I won't be there but my car will.

i'm just kidding man lol i'm interested in seeing what you car puts down though.

dmhenderson 08-02-2013 12:57 PM

You and me both. I actually have the luxury of having tuned the car on the same dyno when the exhaust and HFCs went on so I'll be able to measure all the way from bone stock to FI which is kinda neat.

fryzia23 08-06-2013 08:11 PM

Any update?

dmhenderson 08-07-2013 03:09 PM

At long last, the car is going back together. Everything is installed, up and running. Test fitting the bumper with the brake ducts proved to be an issue (which I freaking told them would be a problem from the juimp and was told "we'll figure it out").

Gave them a couple suggestions - either route left brake duct into oil cooler once mesh grille is in place - including the ducts or go to home depot and buy some extra piping and make it fit.

Either way, looking at a finish/tune tomorrow or Fri so I'll be seeing the MAZOC folks on Sat.

Woot! Can't wait!

dmhenderson 08-08-2013 09:14 AM

So just a quick update. The problem wasn't the duct piping but the duct itself running into the oil cooler. As such, the cooler is going to be relocated which isn't a big deal but we'll be cutting it close to get it done by Saturday. If everything goes as planned, Chris, the guys from Daedalus Customs and I are going to head over there tomorrow afternoon to check out the tuning process and get the headlights put back in. Keep your fingers crossed folks.

Edit: I get the distinct impression that the guys at Moore are fed up with me/this build as it has been somewhat of a headache (also I'm neurotic and call them daily) so props to them for tolerating me/the car.

dmhenderson 08-08-2013 05:44 PM

Update: Oh man if you have the Nismo RC ducts and the stillen ducting kit, this GTM kit is a bastard to install.

Relocated so far: Oil cooler, power steering and the freaking blowoff valve. Good thing they have a certified TIG welder on staff (lol)

SS_Firehawk 08-08-2013 06:45 PM

They're working hard for your money I see :)

dmhenderson 08-09-2013 11:03 AM

Between dealing with issues at GTM, to all of the the custom fabrication they're having to do all the way up to discovering the joys of taking the Z's dash off to install the gauges (which they somehow managed to do inside the OEM housings). They are good dudes.

I'm heading up with another forum member and the owner of Daedalus customs later on this afternoon to check it out. I'm gonna bring them a case of beer.

Don't leave that blow off valve in the up position.

What's with the welding on the intercooler?

dmhenderson 08-10-2013 09:47 AM

Welding is on the aluminum brace not the IC itself. Part of the bov relocation.

Ohh it looked like the intercooler.

Just make them turn that blow off valve facing down or at least sideways or you be cleaning it alot.:hello:

dmhenderson 08-11-2013 12:57 PM

Another nifty side effect of the black intercooler is that it's almost completely invisible behind the black grille I'm having installed. Except for the bov hiss, it should be a pretty neat stealth look assuming I don't pop the hood.

That's why I went with the black ic and piping.

dmhenderson 08-11-2013 06:25 PM

Only my intake pipes are powdered red. Everything else is black

That's ok. You can keep the hood closed and its still a sleeper. As much as a Nismo can be.

I need to get this done now, I like the intake piping polished but the intercooler black is nice so no one sees it.

eastwest2300 08-12-2013 10:28 AM

DM, its looking nice..

carlitos_370z 08-12-2013 10:54 AM

nice work man!!! subscribed to see the progress :)

dmhenderson 08-12-2013 11:43 AM

Car is put back together, BOV no longer "up". Moore is in the process of putting the interior back together.

Tuner is going to load 3 4 tunes on car:
-no boost (for valets etc)
-Street/cruise
-Max power (~11psi)
-Fuel pump shutoff (antitheft)

They're going to give me a call in a bit but it looks like tomorrow will be the day.

Chuck33079 08-12-2013 11:45 AM

How are you able to have different boost settings on the same pulley?

It probably won't be boost changing, but dialing back timing and fuel to be more DD v MAXIMUM POWER!!!!

That's what I thought, but this had me confused

dmhenderson 08-12-2013 11:53 AM

Yeah it's just the uprev software. Apparently you can run around with multiple tunes on the same car. I had no idea.

Ah, well valet mode I am not sure how that functions (never had the map installed).
Probably the map locks out major controls locking down the RPM and speed so you can never enter boost maybe?

You can have multiple tunes, but your boost level is determined by pulley size, and that's not going to be changing based on which map you're running.

Yep, I believe you can have up to 5 maps, just uses cruise control to switch which is really nice.

dmhenderson 08-14-2013 09:49 AM

Car is buttoned up and ready for the dyno...
Last minute safety check for leaks etc and then off we go.

MyKindaGuise 08-14-2013 10:16 AM

in for dyno. Interested to see if yours will make more torque than mine with a boost leak haha.
