Small update. I just received my headlights and side markers back from paint. I think they look pretty good. Now I just need to put everything back together. However I have one small issue/ question. It looks like there is some silicone residue on the inside of the headlight housing. Anyone have suggestions on how to clean it?

Nice work buddy!!! I can't wait to see it all together:excited:

Wiggins3377 01-03-2014 10:18 AM

Given I’ve had the last two weeks off I figured I’d give everyone an update.

For the most part I’ve been putting my car back together and getting everything prepped for the air cup kit. I finally baked my headlights back together and installed them as well as installed my door handles. I’d take pictures and provide them, but the car is extremely dusty as I’ve been doing some fiberglass work in the garage and the pictures wouldn’t do them justice. So once I have the car out of the garage and cleaned up a bit I’ll post some pictures.

In relation to the headlights I do have one concern that’s annoying me, there seems to be some swirl marks and a little fogging on the casing. At first I thought it was in the inside of the casing so I took the headlight back apart and cleaned it again, and that helped, but they still aren’t perfect. Maybe they were always there and it’s just more noticeable now that the headlights are darker, but it’s really annoying me. I tried polishing the casing and that didn’t help, so I think I’m going to get a headlight restore kit and try that. Did anyone else have this issue?

As for the cup kit I’ve been doing quite a bit. I originally wanted to hide the tank and compressor in the trunk similar to how Liquid_G did his, but the three gallon tank that came with the Phantom cup kit won’t fit. So I decided I wanted to show the tank off and I’ll now be mounting it to a false floor in the trunk. Unfortunately the port layout on the supplied tank isn’t the best for this, so I bought another tank, some aluminum airline and various other fittings from BagRiders to get the look I want. I’m thinking ill paint the tank 40th quartz and the aluminum airline purple. I’ll post pics of the mock up next weekend after I get the new parts and have a chance to work on my Z. I also installed the paddle switches in the center counsel and ran the power wire to the battery. Unfortunately Phantom is still waiting on the swift springs so I don’t have my coils or cups yet.

I also got my GT Spec rear strut bar back from paint… it looks great, I just need to get the air tank mounted and ready and I’ll install everything… btw the purple on the brackets (which I’ll use for the aluminum airline) has a hint of green in it so it looks great with my Brides!

that's gonna look great man!

Yes on the headlights. When you wax your car, go over the headlights too. That will keep them looking good like the rest of the car. A lot of people forget about this. The imperfections on the surface doesn't show as much with the chrome background. Now that it's painted a color, and a dark color!, it shows up more.

simota1 01-03-2014 02:25 PM

that looks really great man!!!!! i love what you did with the bars

TheGreatOne 01-03-2014 04:25 PM

Looking good!

The bars look awesome, the purple highlights really are a thing of beauty on your Z.

I may have to re-open my headlight too. I think when I sealed them up I didn't use the best micro fiber cloth and I feel like there is lint on the inside....and its really annoying me. Its a Pita to take those lights out but I may just have to do it

I'm curious to see how your install for the compressor one the Cup Kit. I pulled the trigger on KillerGX001 Air Motion kit :)...can't wait to get it. Leaving it in a box will take up too much space,I was hoping to do what LiquidG did also but I guess it depends on tank size.

Anyways, nice work, one of my favourite Z's :tiphat:

Where does the box sit? I can imagine it would give you an issue. I have a template I can provide you as well so you can keep the rear plastics in tact.

CarbonFZ 01-03-2014 05:20 PM

the box sits between the seat and the strut bar in the rear picture isnt mine but its pretty much the same box except i only have one sub.

If you decide to get it contact Mark at Ravspec. He'll get you one.

Wiggins3377 01-06-2014 02:23 PM

Well I received some pretty shitty news this weekend. As if the coils and cups weren’t way past due as it is, it looks like Swift sent Phantom the wrong size spring so it’s going to be a few additional weeks until I get my cups :(. At this point I won’t be able to install everything until the spring.

I'll still update everyone with the tank outlay etc, as I'll have all the internal airline and wiring done in the next couple of weeks.

Wiggins3377 01-16-2014 09:47 PM

Another small update. I received every thing from bag riders last week and do to some poor planning by me I don't think what they sent me is going to work out. That said I'll be returning everything and I'm reverting back to the tank that came with my air cup kit. I'm thinking I'll mount everything in the corner of the trunk and tuck the one end of the tank as much as I can. I posted a pic to give you an idea. Now I have to think about what color to paint the tank and the compressor. It's obviously between quartz and purple.

I also had time last weekend to rinse off my car. While I did it I took a crappy iPhone pic, but it still gives you a good idea of how the body matched door handles, side markers and headlights look. Plus this is the first shot of the whole car with the redone calipers...

One last thing, the coils were delivered today. If I'm lucky I'll have the cup kit fully installed in the next couple of weeks.

Love the calipers. Is that tank to big to fit behind the passenger seat? I can't really tell and if my wife's purse aka suit case fits I thought it might Lol.

I thought about that as well, however I'm worried about scratching the back of my seats. I'd rather play it safe and protect those from possible damage.

How about installing the tank where the spare tire is? (after removing the spare)

Thought about that as well but I'd have to build something to support the Bose sub. That is the next alternative if I can't get this to work out how I've planned it.

Woah. Never heard of "cups" before. What are they for? Did they come with the coilovers?

GaleForce 01-19-2014 02:16 PM

Air cups are for temporarily raising the vehicle when you approach an obstacle you need to drive over, like a speed bump or pulling in and out of a driveway.

The coil overs are installed at the desired ride hight and are not affected by the air cups when not in use.

Thorazine_IM 01-19-2014 02:23 PM

How much is a set? And how hard is the install? How does it work exactly?

I just opened the box today... Unfortunately I've only had time to drool over them. I'm not sure if I'll get them on before spring.

I found a set lightly used and got a deep discount on them. I paid less than half the cost for the set used. That said Phantom sells a set new for $2,800 I believe. The worst part of the install is running the air line.

Thats a good idea... maybe I need to look at getting some cups. Nice. Your welcome to come down here and I will help u put them on. Pretty easy so far. Im about halfway done. The air lines and stuff is another task but im guessing reasonable.

I have a buddy up here with a lift, just need to get some time set aside to do it. I play to drive down to Louisville for water by the bridge on March 22. Maybe we could meet up then.

As promised, here's what I'm thinking for the tank and compressor layout. The tank that came with the set only accepts plastic air line, so I ran that through some aluminum hard line to make it look a little cleaner. I wanted to make it with a few more bends but I couldn't get it to work. I'm thinking I'll have the tank painted purple to add to that look in the interior. You can also see how I did the GT Spec strut bar through the OEM plastics. I need to sand the cuts down and get some grommets to clean it up, but I like the look over cutting everything up.

Random question. How'd you choose that specific spot and layout? The tank doesn't fit in between the GT spec bar and the OEM brace bar huh? The tank in between the two bars and the pump? underneath the GT spec bar?

I chose that corner because I'm able to hide all the electrical wires going to the pressure switch on the tank this way.

The tank is too big to fit under the strut bar and I thought it would be an eye soar sitting in the middle of the trunk.

Do you have the Bose sub back there? If so I'm wondering how much that ply wood muffles sound back there?
