I was looking through the forum's and stumbled upon your journal and I must say your Z looks amazing! Hopefully I'll see you on the highways around Dallas.

I just went to the drag strip for my first time last weekend at Texas Motorplex. Tons of fun. I didn't take it too seriously and honestly didn't even know if I was going to run it once I got there or just hang out and watch/photograph the other Z's/G's in my group. I got 14's every run (14.2 was my fastest I think) with lots of photo equipment in the trunk, a bag of clothes, and my car cover in its bag lol! Next time I go I will definitely have the intention of at least running 5 times and go much more prepared. The drag strip was about an hour away from my place so when I got there my oil temps were hovering around 220degrees so I let it cool down a while before deciding to make my first pass. By the way, is that just what you call a run? A pass? I'm a newb haha. Anyways my first pass (I'll call it that) I accidentally left VDC on even though I knew to take it off, but had just restarted my car after waiting to go behind 2 cars that were taking a while to get started. Needless to say that run sucked cause it caught right at the beginning in first gear but I still managed a 14 second run and I always had it off after that. Second pass I had my windows rolled down cause it was hot out and it takes a minute to get up to the starting line and after slowly creeping up to the staging lights and coming to a stop I was like "oh sh!t my windows aren't up" and rolled them up as the lights were counting down which totally threw off my concentration. I wish I knew about the whole lights don't matter about your 1/4 time thing and will definitely be utilizing this next time I go as it would have let me focus more and also there were more than 1 occasion were one car slid into the other lane and one wreck! Figure ill let them go first and try not to get hit, it was pretty crazy. My third pass is where things started working out a little better. I tried to rev it a little higher (like 2500-3k) instead worrying about keeping the tires from spinning at all and that time I took off faster but got some wheel hop the majority of 1st gear. My 4th pass was my best run, dropping the clutch from roughly 2grand and getting a perfect launch. Never made it to helmet range damnit! I never burned out or spun the tires before a pass so that, along with over half a tank of gas and a full trunk of goodies probly didn't help. No worries though it was lots of fun and my first drag experience. Both G's in my group were getting mid, maybe low 13's and the other 370z with a few breather mods and took out his spare tire, jack, and passenger seat got either 13.02, or 13.2 fastest time. All but mine were tiptronic. Almost forgot to mention this, my shifts from 1st to 2nd were killing my times. Would have definitely been in the 13's but when shifting near 7k from 1st to 2nd it wouldn't go into 2nd right away, I'm assuming from stress or something. Was in a Porsche the day before cruising around and took it to 7k in first and it shifted to 2nd like butter..... WTF is wrong with my car?!?! It only has 33k miles. Is this a common issue that can be resolved with an upgraded clutch and flywheel combo or less? Someone also mentioned synchros may be going out? I'm completely 100% stock. Let me know what you guys think and hopefully you guys find something from my drag racing experience helpful towards yours in the future.
Here is a photo of our convoy on the way there http://images.us.viewbook.com/ba147a...9efa_large.jpg And a shot from my second pass (taken by my GF) http://images.us.viewbook.com/b883c1...94b3_large.jpg |
And here are a couple of updated partial interior pics after vacuuming the crap out of the interior. hasn't been this clean in a while, had to take some photos.
#1 Main subject, new trunk mat! http://images.us.viewbook.com/fc94a5...96c1_large.jpg #2 http://images.us.viewbook.com/0f5272...6d80_large.jpg |
gotta love a clean car
|
Especially a clean Z! Went kinda crazy with the vacuum

Filled up my gas tank today at $3.88/gallon. Thats the most I've paid for a full tank since I got it May of 2011. Over $70... although I'm sure some of you are paying more. I got 18.71 MPG on this last tank, not too bad for some spirited driving and 4 passes at the drag strip.
Also just installed my Evo-R Carbon Fiber Diffuser tonight. We could of had it installed in literally 10 minutes just drilling screws in the 5 pre-drilled holes that were there from the previous owner of the Diffuser but I swore you had to remove the fog light and install it back over the Diffuser..... Needless to say I couldn't have been more wrong and we put the Diffuser on just to find out when we tried to put the fog light back in it didn't fit in the diffusers cut out so we put the whole fog light assembly back together and had it back on in a matter of minutes. Reassembling the fog light was a PITA! first of all I lost one of the four pop clips cause it flew on top of the muffler when I popped it out and couldn't reach it and it didn't fall after moving the car a little in an effort to get it to slide off the muffler. Second of all those pop clips just suck. Thirdly I had no idea that one of them (the one holding the bottom of the metal plate to the bumper) was larger than the others and put one of the smaller clips in the larger ones place and then had to take it out because it wasn't in tight and was wiggling around cause it wasn't even the right size. All in all the fog light could have been avoided but I just thought you had to have it installed back over the diffuser, so, just learn from my mistakes. I'll post pictures of it tomorrow. |
Also We just got our Camaro back from WhiteSide Customs! It sits much lower than before, looks AMAZING in person. Now, I know we're all Z car lovers here, but this thing is looking pretty good on these BC BR's and handles ten times better with those along with WhiteLine front and rear Sway Bars and upgraded Bushings. We also had them install the Hurst short throw shifter I got her (my GF) for christmas that we've been putting off cause we don't have a lift and they practically installed it for free with all the other work we had done.
This thing is sooo much fun I've got some catching up to do performance wise with the Z. I'm getting jealous! Vossen is even contacting her through the camaro5 forum saying it looks really good and that once we lowered it they would come out for a professional Photo/Video shoot of the car for their website! I'm super stoked, although I don't think these pictures I take and edit look too bad either lol. You tell me http://images.us.viewbook.com/98e07d...bf2e_large.jpg |
lol sorry on the rear diffuser install
And the Camaro is looking pretty good! I wanted one (for a few weeks) before I decided on the Z. And I like the panning shot at the track! |
I like it. Fitment is close to perfect except for a 1/4" gap on the upper right that spans about 4". I need to use some 3M tape or something. Might wait until I get my fog light though to do that.
Yeah I love driving hers around and letting her take the Z. The Camaro once getting used to it has a lot less blind spots despite the tiny windows and is a lot of fun to drive. She took that photo at Texas Motorplex over the weekend. The other car, a charger, was already out in front cause this was the run I forgot to roll my windows up until the last second. Thanks! |
The camaro looks great Dallaz!
|
Thanks
|
:(

the smoked tail lights look great against that blue color
|
Now you need to show the z some suspension love.. :)

Nice pics Dallaz!
Once I get shaved and wheels in the next couple months, I may see if I can retain your photography services... |
Thanks, that would be awesome! Just let me know

|
Man making these photo collages is just too fun.
|
Awesome. Lots of different wheels on the Camaro. Were any of those Forgestar CF5? Did she not like them?

Cool pics. What program do you use to do that?
|
I use Pixelmator. It's so easy to get used to and amazing with the Mac OS. Photoshop is essentially the same thing with more extensive tools but much harder to understand if you don't know the basics. You should check it out, on their website they give tutorials and stuff and I would help you out of course (that is, of your not already good with this kind of stuff)

I coulda swore I saw your camaro on my way to Houston today.
|
It's possible. What are you doing down there?

Picture Update
Haven't really done anything to the Z lately except having the mirrors wrapped in Gloss black vinyl. Iv'e had my Evo-r Diffuser on for a long time now I just haven't got any good pictures of the back yet. Should have some up soon, http://images.us.viewbook.com/205fd5...2d0b_large.jpg |
Up next, who knows, Iv'e got a lot of things I'm considering.
Coils or Springs? this is obvious but I'd love KW V3's I'd like HKS exhaust but recently discovered the CNT (HKS knockoff) for way cheaper...... thoughts? As for the Cats I'm thinking just HFC's over test pipes for myself, I probably won't get a tune until I do quite a bit of work, but I've been driving this thing stock for waaay too long and I'm needing some sound pronto! Amuse replica CF wing body matched except for the deck leaving it CF or just going with the subtle CF wing add on from Mines? And I need to hurry up and just paint my headlights already, been saying that for a while but I never get around to ordering the paint. Of course there's more but these are the few things I'm looking at doing next, I may end up just going with AAM axle back and HFC's as far as exhaust for a little sound until I bite the bullet and grab the HKS. |
Dallaz, pretty sick looking ride big guy. I like the pics a lot.
|
Thanks
|
Sweet mods!
|
Your Z is great looking and your camera must be expensive one... the pictures are great.
|
Thanks for the comments guys, it's been a while since I've done anything new to the Z, so this last week I installed Fast Intentions cat back exhaust (first performance mod!!! Bout damn time) with 18" resonators (amazing sound with absolutely zero drone) and have it set up perfectly with my evo-r diffuser by utilizing a few washers on the rear mounting points of the exhaust. I also flushed the rear differential and transmission fluid and installed Powertrix coilovers! 8 hour day working on the Z, ran into a few too many problem bolts when installing the coils and had to make a run to the autoparts store for some fluids and washers etc.... however this thing feels, sounds, and drives like a totally different car, I'm super stoked! Finally got rid of my fender/wheel gap and got some nice power/sound/looks with the F.I. Exhaust.
I'm definitely taking this puppy out for a photo shoot tomorrow and posting some before and after shots for you guys. There has been some worry I've noticed on this forum about fitment with the F.I. Exhaust's larger tips fitting properly with the evo-r diffuser, and I plan to erase all doubts anyone would have about them working together and not only that but also how amazing they look together. |
