Great turn out at the show as usual. I'll have to measure to be sure but from the looks of it, I've only got about 3" clearance all around maybe less. And guys it's my 21st Birthday on the 13th this month so if anyone wants to send me to Vegas on their stacked up CC miles just give me a shout! |
picture update!!!
I haven't posted anything in my journal for too long! so here's a quick pic I took yesterday of the rear end of the Z. Never posted a picture with the Evo-r diffuser but I've had it installed for months now. the gap between the AeroJacket spats and the Diffuser is invisible when viewing from the back but this shot was taken with the camera on the ground a few feet from the car facing somewhat upwards so it emphasized the gap a lot. I've also since the last picture update lowered the car on Powertrix Coilovers and installed Fast Intentions Catback Exhaust with 18" resonators, changed my rear diff fluid, and changed the tranny fluid all while we had it up for the exhaust install. I also had the dealer install new OEM front rotors because mine were warped and caused shaking when braking at highway speeds, and would squeak when braking at 1-5mph, and had them align it after letting the coils settle. http://images.us.viewbook.com/3ec2cd...6c49_large.jpg The picture is slightly out of focus, I was shooting the lens wide open to blur the background and thought this shot looked in focus when viewing on the cameras display but once I uploaded it to the computer realized it wasnt. Hope to have more pics up soon, this lip kit looks rediculously good after I finally have the car lowered. Within the next month I'm going to get my wheels sand blasted (currently matte black) and re-powdercoated gloss black and get a paint matched Monterey Blue pinstripe around the wheel as well as order a black Texas plate with a custom message I think you guys will like, already have my stillen front plate bracket ready! |
Looks incredible man

Love the blue. Do you think the gap is because of bad craftsmanship or its designed not to go all the way to the edges?
|
I'm down for a casino meet man, let me know an ill try to bring some other z's with me

I'll have more pics up soon to show you, They actually look more balanced together than when someone who has the spats and a painted/wrapped rear valence because the spats stick out in the rear leaving a void to be filled in the center, the rear valence looked "sunken in" until I installed the diffuser. And thanks for the compliment on the color, love this blue! |
It would be awesome if someone made those into a one piece rear lip.

front plate update!!!
Took the Z out to wash it today, Just got my custom plates in yesterday and installed it today with the Stillen front plate bracket before work and took a quick snap in the garage before I put it under the cover. Never had a front plate on this car but I actually like it offset where it is, and for spending $200/yr for these babies, might as well have em on display front and back! I'm really hoping to get my lights done soon, its very high on the list as well as getting the wheels repainted and I might slap on some 10mm spacers all around but still debating, wheels are just a tad sunk in after the drop. http://images.us.viewbook.com/8e97bb...8d16_large.jpg |
Looking to buy some carbon fiber plate frames now so you won't see the white outline of the plate. Should blend better in the front and the rear I'm undecided as to put CF or get a blank frame and have it paint matched Monterey blue for a cleaner look, open to opinions!
|
Cool pic! I plan on doing the same to cover up the white when i get mine.
|
Thanks. Are you going with VDC OFF for the plate or gonna do something different? It'll look good on your white for sure even without the plate frame....
But a little carbon fiber never hurt anybody! |
awesome build car looks great. suprised i haven't seen you driving around in the norht dallas area

Cars torn apart. Ordering the paint to finally paint my headlights. Gloss black housing, Monterey Blue shrouds. No Halo's or LED's, gonna keep it simple.

When I put my bumper back on I will also put on my new carbon fiber license plate frames so you won't see the white outer edge of the Black plate.
|
I was actually thinking blacking out the headlights was all that you really needed to get done. Good luck with the project

Plus Devin and I are looking into a new daily to replace the 3000GT, something with 4 doors to haul friends around and some cargo space for our photography equipment and dogs when we want to take them places, a hatch most likely. We're looking at a 2012 Impreza sport/premium, which would cost the equivalent of supercharging the Camaro and getting the Z Turbo'd. Most likely we'll get the new car over boosting the current cars, cause its so inconvenient cramming the dogs in the 3000's back seat and not having any 4 door cars with space to carry luggage/people. The Z will get Turbo'd one day, I'll want to wait to here reviews of the fast intentions twin kit also, even though I'm pretty set on the single at this point. |

Completely disassemble all the pieces off of the headlight into a freezer ziplock bag including all screws. Get a cookie sheet and place a dampened towel on it to lay the headlight on. 250 degrees for 10 min is perfect. Use mechanix gloves when taking out and pulling apart to separate, it will be hot. Start from the corner of the light that is closest to the rear of the car and pull it back. Separate slowly, use a butter knife to separate a small tab on the side and continue pulling apart. There will be a snap once you get toward the bottom but don't b scared, happens every time. Just be careful and the very bottom, those plastic tabs will snap if you bend the glass off at too much of an angle. I recommend going very slow and pulling it off in an upward motion. Once apart I would wait for it to cool a bit then pack some of the glue back into the plastic edge of the headlight to make the glass slide back in easy when its time to reassemble. Unscrew the 3 screws that hold the chrome shroud. Note they are longer than the other screws. Taking off the shrouds has to be in order. First take off the clear parking light cover, then the orange reflector, then the hid shroud. Reverse when installing. Clean the chrome housing with paint prep and then sand with 300-400 grit sand paper before painting. Hopefully in a dust free environment which no DIY person has. Bugs love the smell of paint and a small dust lint will screw up your paint, especially if it has any gloss or is black. Let dry, don't rush yourself. Next clean the glass carefully and thoroughly, it scratches easy and dust shows when you turn on your headlight. Reassemble in reverse order. Use silicone sealant in the plastic base if you feel it needs more or want to be safe. Bake again and press together firmly. Do not use a drill when reassembling. The Plastic will be hot and will strip easy. I would just place the screws in and tighten to 100% after you are sure it has cooled a bit. Hope that helps. |
Thanks VDC, really appreciate it. Hope to have these done soon

Paint ordered! Looking to have these done by Cars and Coffee on February 2nd.

Also we sold our 3000GT to my younger brother and went out and bought a 2012 Subaru Impreza, Sport Premium model.
Drive back from Houston, got a good deal on it down south, drove down on Monday, banks were closed for Martin Luther, so stayed the night at a hotel and bought it Tuesday morning, drove back up to Dallas and was at work by 4:30pm. Long day Attachment 61615 View of Dallas as I'm driving. Attachment 61616 By the Camaro in the garage, Z is in another garage until the lights are painted. Attachment 61617 9,600 total miles on it after the drive back home (bought it with like 9,300). We were getting around 33mpg's on the way back, the dealer filled it for us in Houston, and 300 miles later its still got half a tank!! |

Got my paint supplies From Automotive Touchup in today, as well as Krylon Fusion Gloss black from Walmart for the housing.
Attachment 62123 Left to Right: Prep Solvent, adhesion promoter, sand able primer, base coat color (Monterey Blue), gloss clear coat, Krylon fusion (fusion=good on plastics) gloss black. Attachment 62124 I also got a tack cloth which you can use to wipe dust from the painted surface if need be in between painting, and a "fine" scuff pad to get the surface of the plastic ready for paint, all from Automotive Touchup. Attachment 62125 Also picked up some Meguiars Ultimate Compound to use on my lip kit, as well as a little plastic epoxy from Loctite for my carbon fiber piece above my license plate, which likes to come unglued from the bumper on the edges because the 3M isn't strong enough, bugs the hell out of me. Just finished my lights and re-installed my front bumper at 3am in the morning after work (last night), drove down to Houston for a meet with a bunch of local Z's today at the woodlands C&C and had a ton of fun. We went on a long cruise afterwards then ate lunch, then headed back up here to Dallas.
