Sweeeet, Travis has got some great ideas....Making a real aero diffuser (not cosmetic) for the Z would be great

This was EXACTLY what I was thinking about doing also. The problem is that people are going to be a little scared of cutting the pieces. I am leaning towards variations for people who want the look and people who want the performance and are willing to cut.

Both kits are going to turn out great, but they started the M3 one before I approached them about the 370z so its not going to move as fast as it would if it were the only project. I am pushing them though and they are really excited about getting some parts out to you guys (and me). Once we have something more solid we can present to you guys, we will have a new vendor onboard. We have some pretty cool ideas in the pipeline, but like any project of this type, you should also understand it takes a while.

I've been looking at the rear end of the car in order to help them draw up a functional rear diffuser, but the exhaust sits low below the bumper line. The biggest problem though, is that with the slew of different exhausts out there, we can't design ONE thing that fits everything. For example something that works with the stock/stillen exhaust will not work with the F.I. exhaust. Looking at options though... maybe a 3 piece diffuser....don't worry, we'll come up with something that works :)

Yes I daily drive it, I live AND work here so chances are you see me all the time. Where about do you live and how come we haven't met up somewhere? Do you have that black one with the aftermarket exhaust? I think I saw you parked outside segafredo the other night.

I'll put my stuff up for sale, will let you know when it is...

Personally, I'm glad that there will be a wait because it shows that these guys are going to take the time and put in the attention necessary to get it right the first time and not rush something to market prematurely just to get a share of the market a month sooner. :excited:

great, from your perspective, I think it will work so long as you're clear that you can't be responsible for the customers' mistakes if they try to DIY it

appreciate your work on this!

RCZ 01-24-2010 10:16 PM

No problem, I love this stuff so I don't really mind the extra work. I'll let you guys know when we come up with something.

Who is interested in a full underbody cover for aero?

If you included a small scoop at the rear near the differential to direct air over a diff cooler that would be pretty interesting. Unfortunately they are a PITA to deal with for servicing if you don't have a 2 or a 4 post lift.

RCZ 01-26-2010 11:06 AM

NACA ducts for cooling (brakes, diff, etc) and openings for oil changes and such would be part of the design. Its just an idea, it would come in pieces to make shipping easier and cheaper. Tossing ideas around..

LiquidZ 01-26-2010 11:40 AM

Can't wait to see/hear more

ChrisSlicks 01-26-2010 11:42 AM

I definitely like the idea, I think it's worth investigating.

RCZ 01-26-2010 12:06 PM

Will do Chris. We are going to explore all these ideas.

For the time being, we are going to start with smaller/ lower priced items so you guys can get to see the quality of the carbon and the reliability of the manufacturers. Then afterwards we can go in the deep end and start with the more ambitious projects. It is the sensible thing to do for us and for you.

RCZ 01-26-2010 08:23 PM

yeah We are looking into those. As you know the problem is attaching them back to the car efficiently and quickly. Does anyone have theirs off and want to donate for a discount?

370zForever 01-28-2010 10:05 PM

Hey RCZ,

Got any info on the weight of the NT05s

Sorry to bother you again, but I just tested these tires and they are unbelievably spectacular. I love these tires and I am going to gladly trade the Michelin A/S plus tires, but I want an idea of if I'm saving any unsprung weight. If I don't save any, It won't make much of a difference because I would still buy the tires, but I'm curious about the weight, so if you have the time or the info already, could you tell me?? This is just a little question I had for curiosity and it's not that important so don't worry about not knowing.....

Thanks

RCZ 01-28-2010 10:29 PM

You know something man, I have no clue. I have absolutely no idea. They didnt feel particularly heavy or light when I was carrying them around. Probably within a few pounds up or down from the stockers.

If you are going to buy a set, PM me.

370zForever 01-28-2010 10:49 PM

Don't worry bout it man....I was just curious and they probably are a few pounds heavier thn the bridgestone potenzas, but I'm cool...I just need to get a little more money or I'll try to sell the Michelins and get these....

370zForever 02-11-2010 08:52 PM

RCZ, any plans for a carbon fiber roof...I'm interested in trying to get one, but it is one of the hardest things to find. No one makes it for the 370z and I don't know anybody that even made it for the 350z. All I see are overlays that look cool, but just add weight. Knowing that Nissan has not really messed with the Z's roof, I'm guessing that it's still made of thick steel, which means that there is good change for weight reduction and lowering the center of gravity. It would be cool to get a carbon roof, but there are still problems other than the rareness and price. I don't really remember them, but it was something about weakness to UV radiation and structural rigidity, but carbon roof still sounds like a good idea. Any ideas RCZ???

RCZ 02-11-2010 11:51 PM

It would be awesome, but the problem is the engineering that goes into the structural rigidity of the piece. If it were as easy as slapping a sheet of carbon in there, it would have been done already. So it takes a lot of R&D, not the easy kind either. Can it be done? Sure, with enough money you can do anything.

Its a good idea to lower the center of gravity, but the engineering behind it is way out of my league and way out of most aftermarket company's leagues. If you hear about one though, let me know.

RCZ 02-12-2010 06:43 PM

UPDATE:

FINALLY installed the Stillen pulley. Drove in torrential rain on the way home so not much testing it out done, but the car does feel a little more responsive and like it wants to rev up quicker (read "go sideways everywhere" quicker). Wont be conclusive until i can really check it out tomorrow.

Also did my oil change with some redline oil, its the first time I've deviated from the Nissan recommended ester oil and everything seems perfect. I will comment on average oil temperature differences as time goes by. Plenty of traffic on the way home, temp hovered at 180, but it was raining and cool out so that's not conclusive either.

Lastly... NT05s in the cool rain = fun!

ZForce 02-13-2010 03:23 PM

Good to here on the Stillen pulley, my next mod. How do you feel the Stillen differs if any from NST? Also how was the response off the line?

Gonna pm ya on some suspension advise.

RCZ 02-13-2010 03:52 PM

Well, I trust Stillen. I know that a lot of engineering goes into all their products and that lets me rest easy. We checked for vibration or wabbling after installing it and it was perfect. After driving around today, it feels good. Its definitely not as noticeable as a light weight flywheel, but its nice and the car feels smoother. Its like the difference you feel when you turn the AC on/off...

Sure, PM away.

ZForce 02-13-2010 04:14 PM

That's what I was hoping to hear: Stillen = quality parts and a lot of R&D put into their products, plus good customer experience.

Unsubscribing to the NST thread, it's Stillen all the way! Contacting Josh@Stillen for mods today. Stillen pulley will be next after the suspension gets sorted out.

Sending you pm now.

RCZ 02-13-2010 05:38 PM

PM'ed ya back.

Josh will take care of you for sure! Its by far the best customer experience/support I've had with any aftermarket company.

ZForce 02-13-2010 09:33 PM

PM'd ya back

Thanks, I got a pm out with Josh, hopefuilly he is working weekends.

Credit where credit is due. I'm pretty sure they don't have a discount for that though, otherwise I'd be building my Stillen shrine right now. (he wasnt talking to me)

they should do it like dish network did and give us free stuff if we name a kid stillen motorsports or something. I'd probably name my kid GTM TT

RCZ 02-16-2010 08:08 PM

^ in all honesty, whats the point of a 500whp turbo kit that costs twice as much as the SC if you can't push the stock block past 500whp anyway. You can make the same power with the SC, more reliably and with a smoother torque curve.

If you want to use the potential of those turbo chargers you are going to have to spend another 5-10k to build the motor...give me the choice to name my kid, he still has Supercharger as his last name.

theDreamer 02-17-2010 08:40 AM

RCZ, any news on that carbon fiber company (iCarbon)?

RCZ 02-17-2010 03:27 PM

Yep, they are tied up doing e92 M3 development, but we have a bunch of good stuff in the pipeline. Expect an update on that around the beginning of March when they can focus on the 370Z.

theDreamer 02-17-2010 03:31 PM

Sounds good, thanks for the update.

370zForever 02-17-2010 09:59 PM

For all you guys with KW V3 Coilovers,

Is is it me or are the V3 coilovers even lighter than stock ones. I weighed the Z after installing the coilovers and I noticed that the weight had slightly gone down...I thought aftermarket coilovers would be more complex and heavier as they have been for a lot of cars that I have put coilovers on...

Could you guys confirm if the KW coilovers are lighter cause if they are I'm also interested in KW's HLS system. I really did drop my car's ride height low and had to fit Eibach's alignment kit, and the car feels spectacular. However, I came across something called a speed bump :) and I was actually grazing my bumper as I got closer and I was sure that I was going to scrape it slightly. Thankfully, no one was behind me so I reversed out and went around. It does seem like a minor issue, but I will be using the Z a lot more often and traveling, so the system will be very helpful and I it's really cool how it works....The system has barely come out and I don't even know how much it costs, but I'm broke right now anyway, so I'm still saving...

RCZ 02-18-2010 07:53 AM

Coilover systems are lighter than stock a lot of the time. They usually have smaller springs and are built out of lighter materials designed to be used on the track.

RCZ 03-04-2010 01:11 PM

As some of you know, Z1 Performance was kind enough to send me one of their prototype Comfort Transmission mounts for third party testing. This comfort version is 40% stiffer than stock.

I received it today and the plan is to install it Saturday. I hope to have a nice review for you all soon after that.

Here are some pictures and let me remind you that this is a prototype and not final production piece. DIY possibly coming as well.

RCZ 03-04-2010 01:14 PM

You're welcome and Thank Z1 for sending it!

RCZ 03-05-2010 08:52 AM

I don't have much experience polishing things, but I do have a dremmel and some polishing wheels. Can someone tell me what the process is for polishing that mount a little? I dont want a mirror finish, I just have a day and I can't look at the thing and not do anything about it.
