Clock is ticking for Zdayz.:driving:

The way the brake ducts has the hose angled. Is right into some of the turbo piping. Get with Spooler to see how MAM routed his hoses around the piping.

Oh sweet baby Jesus, I'm finally done with the accessories... except for the tensioner. I'll address that when the engine gets yanked back out.

Let me have this win!

The engine is locked in place, body panels are loosely on and the green light for turbo fabrication has now been granted. While the turbo is getting fabricated I will need to finish the transmission mount and order the drive shaft.

I wonder what the next hurdle will be that grinds everything to a halt? I think I hit almost every landmine there was for the accessory drive.

I might have the car ready just before Zdayz. I'll need a few shake down drives so I'll definitely be up.

Feel free to swing over to Kalamazoo too! Welcome to check the car out in person. The shop just put in a new hoist for the dyno and redid the whole room. Maybe we can pop your car on the dyno so we can have a VQ boosted Z on the power board? We're making a power board and will have the top 20 cars posted. Also going to do a cars and coffee at the shop in the late spring. :driving:

From IG:
Finally, my alternator came in! I will definitely say the wait is worth it. Another American product going into my Z.

Holley Premium Alternator in, only 2 bolts. Eating an elephant one bite at a time. It's a little guy compared to the OE beast.

Found a clearance issue on the passenger side exhaust manifold. Was gonna mock the some turbo plumbing but I need to tap in some skill on that. Moved back to the accessories and figured out a tensioning.

-----------

I need to find a counter sunk M10 bolt to go into the alt bracket. I think I can find something off of Amazon, I'll grab a few different lengths. That will really complete the accessories. It's surprising how big of a b1tch the accessories have been.

There's a clearance issue with the RIFE combo sensor (top left of the water manifold). Motion Raceworks is going to get another order from me. They have a bracket for a fuel pressure regulator that comes with two button bolts. The bracket will be square in the middle of the valley pan just above the steam vent and will allow for left and right AN feeds from my fuel rails. The return line will be nice and clean too.
Motion Raceworks LS Timing Cover Fuel Regulator Bracket (Aeromotive Small EFI Regulator)

Crank case pressure will be an issue so I have to have breathers hooked into a catch can. Holly didn't have an option with a bung when I ordered my valve covers so I need to put some in. Again, Motion Raceworks has a solution I like... Billet valve covers in black can be mounted near the back of the valve covers so I can run minimal hose and look killer. Tad on the pricey side but they nice baffles and I can use AN fittings for different size hoses. I'll probably run -10.
Motion Raceworks Billet Valve Cover Breathers Black Anodized (Pair) 32-120BK.

I'll try to get videos of the turbo plumbing going together, short clips. My buddy Dave and Nick think that the turbo plumbing is going to be cake.

From IG @gbrettin (yes I'm too lazy to retype):
Modified the @motionraceworks fuel pressure bracket to work a little smoother with my setup. The bracket would normally stand up out in front of the @417motorsports water manifold. The bracket got some death wheel and new holes so the FPR can lay down and send the return fuel back toward the engine. The fuel pressure side will line up pretty well. The RIFE sensor changed to the FPR so that I can monitor fuel temp and pressure. I'm going to monitor coolant pressure on the water manifold and I'll monitor coolant temps from the head.

------------------------

First picture shows Motion Raceworks Billet Valve Cover Breathers and Billet Catch Can. I will need to remove positive crank case pressure due to the turbos.

From IG @gbrettin:
Hand sanding pie cuts kinda sucks. The not so glamorous parts of a build. 🤷*♂️

Maven quality is no joke. "Zero tolerance for mediocrity" and it shows. The mounts should make life a whole lot easier. Turbo placement is going into the bumper and a duct cut in straight to the turbo. The plan was to re-purpose the brake ducts but that's not going to work at all. I'll keep the brake ducts for the intended purpose of cooling brakes.

---------------------

Moment later after the post to IG... Thinking about the possibility of weather and how it rains sometimes ... and my car isn't a specific drag car... It has been decided to make an air box out of aluminum that can sit above the intercooler. we can also figure out how to slot in an air filter into the box. Who knows, maybe I'll use the "brake coolers" to the air box.

And when I say that's what is happening, I mean that's what is happening for the next 5min. As you can tell, I try to stay somewhat fluid on ideas so I don't box myself into a corner.

Aside from that. I think this is the exciting part y'all will dig.

You're lucky. I got 7 deer with my truck so far. 3 deer with the truck before. 1 turkey, 1 coyote with the truck before that. 1 cow with a motorcycle. Had a bird try to fly through the front wheel of one motorcycle. He never came out the other side. The spokes made a mess of him.

I mean, the bird's head got sheared off at 70-80mph... I slowed down to 20-30mph for the racoon and then sped back up after he went into a bush. I think he really wanted to die.

From IG @gbrettin:
Some wins and losses along the way for this one. Win - transmission mount is done and it's sturdy. Loss - my welding isn't great but I did penetrate the metal fine. I'm showing the welds because I'm pushing my self in new territory and I'm simply not good at something the second time and it's important to show that (I think). I took some advice from last time and set up a test weld. I thought the metal was the same but it was thinner on the test metal so I didn't penetrate as well on the car. This is hind sight now after I sit back and think about it. After I ground down the "welds" they looked fine afterwords and would do just fine. Clearly I'm not going to weld the hot or cold side for the turbo system. It is what it is. Live and learn.

-------------

I stopped up and talked to my buddy today about the welds. He pulled out a welding card that shows you what settings to set it at. I needed to have the heat 1 step higher and the wire feed 1 step slower. The nut has WAY MORE than enough weld to stop anything from happening so I'm not worried about the welds. Also, the transmission bracket is hiding them under the car... So yeah.

I'm showing all the good and bad (as previously stated). Maybe someone can learn a bit of something from my stuff. I know my big take away is

1. Look for the directions
2. I can't always be good at something the first couple times.

I'm actually kinda of spoiled on #2... Most of the time I can pick up new stuff pretty quickly. I take a pride/ego hit when something doesn't go well. I'll eat my humble stew on this one and keep chipping away at welding.

BTW, it's a real b1tch to get some of these photos while trying to get work done... lol. Maybe I'll set up a stop motion video at some point so you can see my cool dance moves in the shop when I'm alone.

Enjoy!:

I always do test weld on a piece of scrap before welding on the part. This way, I can check and adjust the settings to my liking. Your welding should sound like bacon and eggs frying with little splatter.

Yup, I did the test weld (per your suggestion a while back which was who I was referencing). I grabbed a scrap piece of metal that was thinner metal. Lessons learned. I'll get better. My buddy offered to go back and make them look nice... but I honestly don't see the point. It will hold and no one will see it.

I just need more seat time. It is what it is.

- Edit

The transmission drives upward into the car so the forces will never pull down... unless I'm doing some stupid sh1t in reverse.

Oh, good to know! I still feel confident that the amount of weld on these nuts along with the tight fit of the hole on the nut is going to be just fine.

IG:@gbrettin
Solid transmission mount completed. The mount was originally in a drag car so I only needed to modify it a bit (Last picture). If it worked fine for his car, it will work for mine. Now I can get my drive shaft in (that's what she said).

-------

Ok, turbo stuff incoming... but I also need to get my transmission in the car and order a new drive shaft.

On a different note... I called Wiring Specialties and confirmed that they have a CANbus module coming out for the 370z. What this means is all my factory gauges will work without me trying to map out the CAN signal to my MS3. I'll gladly pay for that.

I threw in a couple extra pics. The truck in the picture just had a mega lift completed. It's not a kit. All the tubing was bent using a bender. Heim joints were welded on to the custom tubes. Custom long travel shocks were ordered through Big Shocks (Michigan company). The plates in the middle were laser cut by the same guy that's in process of making my custom oil pan. I can literally stand in the wheel well. Now I don't care for lifted trucks... but I can appreciate the custom work.

The car sitting next to mine is a buddy of mine that's racing me to completion. He's doing a custom TT G8. He painted his turbos teal and it's SICK. His car is gonna be wicked when done. His IG is @snw1te_g8 if you want to see more.

Chalk me up for two more fails. Chopped back the manifold but it was way too oval to mess with, so that will be welded back up (not by me). Changing direction, I chopped the AC bracket and AC tab off. Works better when you cut the correct tab *♂️. Picked up some metal putty then worked a tab back on. I'll smooth the mountain out after it dries. I'm annoyed and done today. ✌️

----------------------

I'm still annoyed and don't have much to say other than I'll continue to post all aspects of the build. Proof is below. Note to self, physically mark the item to cut. My ADD brain is thinking about 100 other steps for this build as i'm trying to work on one thing.

The putty said it bonded to aluminum and when I lined up the tab it had spots for the putty to really bite into like an empty casting hole.

That being said... I'll run it and if it breaks... it breaks. It's only 300 bucks :wtf2:
