Mr. G. Brettin's Slow Motion Leg Hump
Hi.
Figured I'd start a build thread because I like to show and tell. I'll just start off by posting pictures and circle back with comments. 2009 370z Sports Package First picture of my car. https://dovqxa.dm.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none Before Swap: https://zbtgva.dm.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none After Swap: https://sat02pap003files.storage.liv...&cropmode=none |
Bought a verus rear diffuser because my car may have went airborn at some point... I will not confirm nor deny that.
Also seen in the picture are the side blades for my Z, new dual band AFR, Aeromotive fuel pressure regulator and some camber arm that I picked up on the cheap. The Uprev tuning software was sold (more on that later). https://cpuwua.dm.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none https://deuwua.dm.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none https://cpx1ow.dm.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none Some Aerolatch hood pins https://dov7qw.dm.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none Zspeed under shroud: https://cewj0q.dm.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none Zex Nitrous Kit w/ bottle heater and remote opener (Click Here for nitrous install) Nitrous filling stations (because why not) https://oofj0g.dm.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none https://duwqga.dm.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none https://ceukrg.dm.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none I think an eject button is called for with nitrous. https://cevt6a.dm.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none Install completed with nitrous https://buwj0q.dm.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none I added carbon fiber shifter trim, switch plates and Kenwood Excelon. The Excelon can tie into the OBD2. Gale Force's pillar can also be found in the picture. I recently upgraded to a dual Innovate wideband reader. https://cowqug.dm.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none https://doukrg.dm.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none https://b3czja.dm.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none https://duukrg.dm.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none While I was on the carbon fiber kick... figured I would pickup some CF paddles. (look close, you can see my monkey toes) https://bpvalw.dm.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none https://cuwqug.dm.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none https://dpwqug.dm.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none You knows what goes good with interior carbon fiber? exterior carbon fiber. Finite Element Design Brake duct inlets w/ stillen brake cooling https://poeama.dm.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none https://dewqga.dm.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none I want an even flow of CF, not too much just accent pieces so I found legit CF B pillars, not CF overlays. These will replace the OEM pillar https://cux1ow.dm.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none I wanted some cooling for my engine bay so I went with Fly 1 Spec-V hood. - SOLD in favor of making my own pin on hood. https://chcsrq.dm.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none Should go good with the Fly 1 Duckbill v3. (Fast intention exhaust removed. more on that later) https://cuv7qw.dm.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none another view of the duckbill. Fuel pump failed so it was upgraded to an Aeromotive Stealth 340 https://bpwqga.dm.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none |
In this section... I'll lead off with this, because it's relevant. I've decided to go for an LS swap on my Z. Donor engine acquired! Aluminum block 5.3 :)
https://pyeama.dm.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none The engine is pretty much trash so I need to break it down so that it can be sent out to the machine shop. https://zilucw.dm.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none https://bnb9ow.dm.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none https://bhb9ow.dm.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none https://a3csrq.dm.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none https://bxdilg.dm.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none https://c3czja.dm.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none https://a3dilg.dm.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none https://cndilg.dm.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none https://a3dilg.dm.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none https://dhdilg.dm.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none It's Time to send the block out for machining now that the block has been broke down. Cylinders had pitting and were out of round; however, machine work made everything better than new. https://dpvt6a.dm.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none https://devt6a.dm.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none A 4.8 crank was located because the goal is to destroke the 5.3. Keep in mind that the crank is the determining factor between a 5.3 and the 4.8. The block was punched out a bit so the ending displacement is more like a 5.0. Now you might be asking yourself, "why the destroke???". Well, I have two reasons. 1.) The destroke should make for a high reving engine. 2.) The 4.8 is strong. Very strong, as in hold 1500whp strong. Another reason why I had to put a 4.8 crank in the block is because GM never made an aluminum block (LC9 code) with a 4.8 crank. https://zcl8aq.dm.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none |
Accessories for the block? Yes please!

CP pistons should be on their way and hopefully arrive mid January. I need to place an order to LJMS (Lil' John Motorsport Solutions) for cam, pushrods and trunnion kit. When the engine comes together, I'm looking to push 9k RPM or so.
I was at PRI last month and found a new product that will go into my Z once released by Sikky. I'm going to have to opt for solid mounts because expected HP/TQ range for the LS will be around 1000. https://kot8ya.dm.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none |
Well that escalated quickly.

What Transmission will you be paring the LS motor with?
What do you plan on doing with the CF paddles you purchased? |

- Going with a built 4L80e. Transmission will be built by Capizzi Automotive in MI (Stock LS SBE record holder). This guy: What do you plan on doing with the CF paddles you purchased? - The paddles will be used with the 4L80e because the BCM is going to be mapped out for all OE controls. |
Are those Fly1s paddles?

Sub'd and amazed.

What stuck out in my head was if I'm doing the swap then I'm gonna build a beast. Sent from my SM-G930P using Tapatalk |
 Was wondering when you was going to do a build thread.

I forgot to post a few items that I had.
Z1 Master Cylinder Brace Z1 High Capacity Rear Diff Cover(I'm dreaming for a different diff... ) - I'm looking into getting a rear diff brace from Royalty Performance that was specifically made for the Z1 high cap cover. Z1 Sub-frame collars Turbo Werx Pump. - The turbos will be mounted lower in the car so I'm not taking any chances with the drain. https://cj5zjq.dm.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none |
Ordered Royalty Performance diff brace. I'm guessing that the Z1 diff case would crack if there wasn't bracing. The SOHO billet diff case is a bit rich for my taste.

Would like to see how that brace is mounted to the sub-frame.

Will this or the Z1 brace fit with the MA rear diff cooler installed as well?

Much excite! More parts, parts, parts are on the way. This is the last order to build the entire long block!
https://n4dkww.dm.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none |
And now the fun begins...
https://cpxnxa.dm.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none Edit - I was able to swing out to the performance shop and snap a few pictures. https://dpudrg.dm.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none https://ceuy6a.dm.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none https://cpuy6a.dm.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none https://cuuy6a.dm.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none https://douy6a.dm.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none https://deuy6a.dm.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none |

Long nights and longer weekends. :rofl2:

Side note...I'm thinking about using an engine plate instead of billet motor mounts. That should put an interesting twist on things. |

I had to pump the brakes on putting my long block together. I wanted to add piston oil squirters to the engine and I'm waiting on getting the jig that allows for holes to be drilled in the block. After that the block will need to go back to the machine shop to 100% remove any burrs that may have been produced. Sucks, but there's a reason why high performance engines have it done (including the VQVHR).
My FITech throttle bodies came in today, and they are ridiculously large! lol. Hopefully it doesn't hurt air velocity being so large... but what ever, I'm committed now. -Edit: Larger throttle bodies will just make the throttle respond quicker. Once boost starts kicking in, it will shove the air into the large openings. ZERO issues with 102mm. https://c3didq.dm.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none https://bhd3fw.dm.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none https://cnd3fw.dm.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none https://bxdidq.dm.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none https://chdidq.dm.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none https://m.facebook.com/story.php?sto...00000042513541 |
