Deeper and deeper. ... ...

Looks like I want to be a snob with my wiring and go for a dual bulk head connector and also get a turbo mount to make life easy.

Installed the Motion Raceworks steam vent kit and 417 Motorsports billet water manifold. Both items are top notch quality; however, the 417 manifold is an absolute gem. The timing cover will need to come off for dual oil drains for the turbos and will be painted black at that time. I'll also take the ICT valley pan off to give that a high polish. At the end of the process, when the engine comes out to paint the engine bay, I'll clean the block and paint it with aluminum paint. All-in-all, it will look minty fresh when it's done... or at least I will be happy with it! :)

The steam vent kit will be tied into the water manifold with a 4AN line. Also, I will get a pressure sensor so I can see if I lift a head.

I have acquired my new turbo headers for the right price, Free ninety nine. I'll get out to the shop tomorrow and clean them up. The flanges will be cut off and Vbands welded on. Mounting points will be ground down smooth. After that, I will have them ceramic coated and all will be good.

The Clearview Filter came in... and it was a good choice. Not sure where I'm mounting it... but that's down the road anyway.

Spoke to Maven Performance about the bulkhead connector, turbo mounts and T4 flanges. That's in motion. Let's just say Maven Performance threw in a free T-shirt...

IT'S A MATCH! AMP EFI IGN-1A meet Motion Raceworks coil bracket. Gonna be some sweet sweet spark and bang action going on soon.

Coil packs mounted and intake bolted down. Motion Raceworks coil brackets look nice on the Holley valve covers. Some progress is better than no progress. I'm slow *♂️. I also try to think about future placement of turbo plumbing, wiring, hoses and etc... Guess that accounts for some of the slowness. I'd rather do it right.

Fun fact. It is possible to put the coil packs on the wrong way if you are a dummy. Note to self: Don't be stupid, stupid.

The mil-spec connector (shout out to Maven Performance) appears to be an awesome idea after all. The space where the battery was located is going to be the home for the mil-spec connector.

My shortlist needed now are EGT bungs (8 for sensors), Ignition Coil connectors and GM LS 58x Wiring Harness

That should conclude most all the wiring components I need.

Reset the depth on all my used EGT sensors (used literally once). Previous owner had them set way too deep. Test fit the headers with bolts in so I can get my accessories figured out. Looks like I'll have a low mount alternator, that's all. I'm looking to get a junkyard electric power steering pump. Holley/Lokar drive by cable adapter attached to the twin intake.

EGT bungs (8 for sensors), Ignition Coil connectors and GM LS 58x Wiring Harness have been ordered today...

AND

Holley Premium Alternator
Holley Beauty Cover
Dirty Dingo Low Mount Bracket

I'll see how that goes prior to getting the ATI Super Damper.

In every picture it looks like the runners on that manifold are skinny A.F.

gbrettin 01-20-2020 02:08 PM

The manifold is huge. And the runners are no smaller than the cathedral port. Check this N/A test out by Richard Holdner:

Damn those are some solid gains.

It has to be the perspective. i know it doesn't make sense for a twin tb manifold to have smaller runners than say the high ram - but my brain is telling me it looks funny.

Pictures really don't do the intake justice. It's yuge. Hopefully I will have this turd beast at Zdayz so everyone can check it out.

I was told that my accessory drive must be finished prior to completing the turbo plumbing. ::icon14::rolleyes: So I dove in the last few days and got it all figured out.

I found a rad company that has top notch brackets. I dipped my toe in the water getting the alternator bracket. After getting the first piece in and reading over all the reviews I could find, they appear to be top notch. The bracketing allows me to low mount both the AC and alternator. Power steering is going to be mounted in the normal position but will have a small billet pulley.

I've never seen an unboxing of an ATI Damper. If you haven't, like me, now you have! 😁 As silly as this sounds... This is one of the icing on the cake components that I've always dreamed of having when I do a "build".

I should have all the accessories buttoned up soon. THEN the turbo plumbing can commence.

I just spent an embarrassing amount of time putting an ATI Damper together. I looked at the damn damper and thought to myself, "That's a ridiculous spacing." Turns out it was ridiculous... The stub shaft has to be flush with the front. 🙈 Live and learn.

Had to take off the timing cover and paint satin black. It didn't look right with the 417 water manifold and intake.

jk.....that is an amazing amount of ingenuity and coin youve put into this project. Nice!!:yum:

gbrettin 01-26-2020 05:15 PM

ATI damper on but not fully torqued. The balancer will come off and be keyed later when the engine is removed. Timing marks will be set properly at that time as well.

I didn't post the Power Steering pump brackets on my social media because I'm slightly
annoyed. The 417 water manifold has been a pain int he azz. The power steering bracket will need to be modified. I grinded out some of the bracket and it looks like it will clear now. I'm not sure on how all the spacers need to be installed and I was having a hell of a time finding the directions online using my phone. My power steering pump was supposed to be here yesterday and I was planning on using that today with the brackets. I hit a certain level of annoyance today and decided to throw in the towel and regroup.

I'm not going to lie, doing all this assembly the first time gets overwhelming at times. Sometimes stuff just flows together, this isn't one of those times. I could knock out the ATI damnper install in 30min now vs 3hrs of starring at it like a dumb monkey now. Experience goes a long way. Meh, what ever. new day will be here soon enough. These are my trials of being a newbie in the car realm. Everyone pays their dues some where down the line.

Thanks man. I appreciate it.

There have been quite a few "is it finished" comments external of here. The main limiting factor is what you said, "coin". race car parts are NOT cheap, for any build. I feel like every part averages about 2-3 hundred.

Gotta pay to play... I keep telling myself that...

Rusty 01-27-2020 12:50 PM

You walked right off the end of a pier, into not a rabbit hole. But a black hole.

gbrettin 01-28-2020 01:12 PM

I regrouped. Looks like I have two options for my Power Steering.
1.) Shave the spacer sleeve. (Already shaved the arm to clear the manifold.)
2.) Cut the arm off the bracket and re-weld the arm so that it reaches up right to the head.

I'm going to go with option 1 for now.

I ordered two Earls -16 AN Orb block off fittings that will give additional room (and be the correct block off)

Parts are slowly trickling in to complete the accessory drive... but it looks like the Premium Alt from Holley wont be here until middle of February. Mock-up will need to carry on with a standard alt until that comes in. Holley was kind enough to send my Premium alt cap, which can't be used on anything but the Premium Alt.

On a different note, Motion Raceworks took notice of my car and used it in their advertising... I thought that was pretty cool.

Text from IG (@gbrettin):
No filter. I polished the power steering wheel. This should pair well with the 417 water manifold now.

Mock up of power steering bracket and alternator (temporary alt). A Holley Premium Alternator, smaller, should be here next month because they are back ordered. Power steering needed a little massage with a grinding wheel. Flat top 16 ORB fittings should fit perfect, which are in route from Fragola.

Low mount Dirty Dingo AC attached. I broke the casting on the AC compressor because I went the wrong way with the bolt *♂️. That was welded back together and retapped. The AC compressor bracket appears to have a slight clearance issue. Grinder is earning its keep!

Amazon came through with expedited shipping after my last power steering pump fell off the truck somewhere. The show must go on! - EDIT - the show stopped... wrong part...

Looks like the core support will work fine... Might want to use it after all.

Pressed on my Dirty Dingo PS wheel onto my 3rd pump. 1st pump was MIA from Amazon and I ordered an incorrect pump for the 2nd. 3rd one was perfect re-manufactured. All was well until I noticed power steering bracket was for truck spacing. The 417 Motorsports 16 AN ORB on both of the top ports were cut at the wrong taper and busted a new Fragola block off. *♂️ I spoke with both 417 Motorsports and Dirty Dingo, they are sending new parts no hassle. All is good! They made everything right . The mock 4L80e is in and cross member has been made. LAST BUT NOT LEAST! I am officially sponsored by MS3!

So, I hit Phunk/Charles up a month ago and let him know that I'm in the market for some fuel pumps and ask if he could get me two Hellcat pumps because the website only allowed for measly 450's. He was keen to oblige because he smelled a scent of burnt cash emanating from my pockets.

I needed to continue to make it rain like tax season at the local strip club. Phunk is looking into getting me the ID 750 w/ out the fuel pressure sensor (come on guys, I have spending limits here).

Want a bad *** fuel system? Go to CJ-Motorsports. Need an even more bad *** fuel system? Call them.

Phunk sent me a peepshow late last night of what to expect:

As for the sponsorship, I'm not really expecting anything from MS3. I like their product and I already have all their parts I need. I guess that's a pro tip. Buy an entire catalog and then get the sponsorship instead of writing a letter of "Give me free stuff for my car". :roflpuke2:

Getting ready to mock up the turbo plumbing. I needed to get all the body panels on. The white fenders were given to me so that my stock fenders don't get beat up, they are sitting in my basement.

My transmission mount had a malfunction and I ended up ripping out a riv-nut. I'm going to swap out to a weldable threaded nut. After I get the brace sorted I can mount the real transmission and order the drive shaft.

My car looks like a car again!

The ducting is going to be 3" but they will be ran to the turbos for fresh air. I'm going to run naca ducts for the brake coolers. I have no idea where yet, maybe right on the Zspeed tray? I dunno and not terrible worried about that right now.

Clock is ticking for Zdayz.:driving:
