Test firing the assembed weapon for function is commonly done, but pressure testing isn't necessarily. The M4 TDP calls for HPT and MPI of the barrel and bolt. Those individual components are individually tested with a high pressure proof load, then the whole rifle is test fired for function.

HPT and MPI are a little controversial. Not sure that it's necessary given modern manufacturing techinques and materials, but it is true that because of the expense, it's one way to distinguish the higher-end weapons

Doesn't mean it is right.

Crazy thing is my $600 ria arrived with the 2 casings required by new york, but so meticulously cleaned that you'd never know it had been fired...

My Glock was that way... super clean. But who knows if Glock cleaned it themselves or if someone at the gun shop cleaned it when it came in.

Yep, my Sig had obviously been fired, but I'm glad they test 'em.

Like you said, if my bang stick don't go bang, I ain't going to be a happy camper LOL

Sigs are all test fired, as are Glocks. I have a Glock 17 around here somewhere. It came with a little manila envelope in the case that contained two empty cartridges from the test firing.

As I mentioned, coming dirty from test firing at the factory is no big deal. A quality combat weapon will run fine dirty. I clean my pistols and rifles, but only every so often. Maybe every thousand rounds for pistols and every 2000-3000 rounds for rifles. A precision rifle...that I might clean more often, but in a combat weapon I'm more concerned about function than I am about precision and a Glock or Sig, or any quality AR15/M4 will run fine for thousands of rounds with only some quality lube and an occasional bore snake. That, and an occasional chamber brushing and any quality AR with an in-spec chamber works even if absolutely filthy as long as they're lubed.

Man, I clean mine meticulously even when I don't really need to. I know my Glock will run just fine dirty but I clean it after every time I shoot it, even if it's only 100 rounds or so. My guns that don't get shot... I clean them once every 1-3 months.

I really like taking them apart and putting them together again.

I love to shoot at the range and I love to drive the Z. The Z always has to wait in the parking lot while I shoot, and gets jealous. So now I just drive down the road shooting signs, that way we can do it together.

Agreed. Nothing wrong with cleaning a weapon. There's no downside. They can't be over-cleaned.
