Can you do me a favor. Close the hood very vert slowly and look through the crack with a flash light. Does the damper touch the plastic covers for the brake master cylinder and battery.  I'm going to have to come up with something more creative. I'm thinking a light coat of Vaseline on the shock and a peice of paper on the battery cover plastic to see if there's any residue when I open the hood back up. I'll let you know what I find out.
