I've been to that area where AK lives in the past. It's really close to the water and low. I hate to say this, but I don't think his house

I've been to that area where AK lives in the past. It's really close to the water and low. I hate to say this, but I don't think his house could have made it without extensive flooding. The only thing that really matters is that he got out of there safely.

We're not out of the woods yet. Stay safe fellas. Lots of down trees, power lines and broken stoplights everywhere.

stay strong guys.... living on an island that has seen a good amount of hurricanes/typhoons...i know how extensive the damages can be with them. I am glad AK is ok... i hope the best for his house our houses on guam are all built outa cement because of typhoons hitting us so often (thank god none have hit us for a while) The winds of the typhoons here reach 125mph easily and sometimes reach almost 200mph with super typhoons i can only imagine the havoc on the wooden houses built in states ill keep praying for those of you who are affected by this catastrophe.... i wish you all the best

Where do I start ...

First of all, thank you so much for all your kind words. Reading those posts really made me feel better when I was down and depressed. Thanks to Triple's for posting an update for me. It wasn't until the late following day when the electricity came back to our hotel room but we didn't had wi-fi due to comcast being out. Sorry I couldn't post an update.

Me and my family are okay - thank god. But I can't say the same for my house. It was flooded with about 3-4 feet surge of water. Luckily water didn't stay long. It drained when the tide went down but it was long enough to damage everything from 3-4 feet from ground. Off top of my head, I know our washer, dryer, water heater, gas heat (for the house), 42" tv, 32" tv, lawn mower, 2 sofas, 1 mattress/bed, 1 treadmill, 1 refrigerator (me and my brother took off a door to move the freezer upstairs but refrigerator just wouldn't fit through), Motive brake bleeder (black label) , some of my detailing stuff that I was using recently and who knows what small things laying around - were damaged in the water surge. We kinda had to rush through as mandatory evacuation time was approaching us. There hasn't been any electricity since Monday in our house. So, anything in the freezer (hundreds of lb.s meat) are probably bad by now. Not to mention all the stuff in the refrigerator. But I'm looking at the big picture that WE are okay. Other than flood damage, our house is still there. What if Sandy took our house with her to the ocean? things could have been much much worse. I'm just very grateful that at least when they let us in to our city, we will have a place to sleep. As you guys saw it on the news, NOT many can say that. Sandy was the worst hurricane I have seen in my lifetime. It destroyed homes like it was made of paper.

We are NOT allowed to go back to our house or city. My brother have access to city being a Police Officer, hence he was able to go in and inform us about the damage. They are NOT allowing any public to go back yet as of 1:08 pm EST Thursday. I was told they are in the process of cleaning the roads, fixing electric poles/lines and trying to bring back electricity and fix the sewerage. Sewerage seems to be the biggest problem right now - as I was told.

The hotel we are living is full with no vacancy. So everyday we are not certain if we will stay or have to look for another hotel. Yesterday there were cancellation in reservation so we were able to stay. About 5 min ago, we just got assurance that we can stay tonight as there were couple of cancellations in reservation. I should also mention that my baby aka the Z is safe and parked right outside. If something happen to my Z, I'd be soo devastated.

How did everyone made out? any damage to their house or Z? I salute all the people who have been working night and day to restore my town and many other towns in the area. It's amazing what you can accomplish when everyone gets together and help

This is the shopping center not even 1/4 mile from my house. My house, if anything, lower or same level as this. So I knew once I saw this pic my house was flooded. What I didn't know was by "how much" water

AK, glad to hear you're safe. Sorry about your house, but you're right, it could have been much worse! Those items are replaceable... you and your loved ones are not.

Hang in there, bud. I hope life can return to normal for you as quickly as possible!

AK, I made out ok, luckily.

Sorry to hear about your troubles, mate. I'm glad you and yours are safe. Hopefully insurance will absorb some of the blow for you.

Let me know if there's anything I can do. PM me, but no naked pics, please.

Thanks Steve. I really appreciate it. Yes, being alive and able to go back to a house with full family - seems like a huge deal to me.

Thanks Shado. We do have flood coverage but not sure what's covered or how much %. If your or anyone here have dealt with flood or know what's the best process to follow, please feel me to post or pm me. thanks

BTW, look at my house. It looks over the bay and surrounded by water. It would be quite impossible to not flood . Being in flood zone sucks

All I can say is, stick to your guns. I called my flood insurer, as noted previously in this thread, and they refused me on a technicality. Had their been damage to my house, they'd be hearing from my lawyer today. The bottom line with insurance is that they'll try to get out of paying as much as possible. Others may have more experience than me. But keep your chin up and stick to your guns.

Holy crap! Yeah, I live in a flood plain, too. I took a pic from down the road. Local park got completely overrun. I'd have posted it here by now, but I haven't brought my pc back downstairs. That's scary stuff, man.

Glad to hear you and your family are safe AK. Possessions are replaceable, homes are repairable, people not so much.

When you file your claim you also have to consider that any drywall and insulation that was in contact with water will need to be replaced. Even the electrical wires in those areas will need to be removed and new ones installed for safety.

First thing when you get back, take lots of pictures for the insurance and then immediately remove as much of the wet items from the house as possible, especially things like carpets and sofa's that will retain moisture and start smelling and growing mold.

Hope you get back soon, and let us know if there is anything we can do to help you.
